Title: dog burial
Post by: sashbash on December 29, 2010, 09:33:52 AM
Hi can anyone help please. I have to make the decision very soon about my dog. She is going downhill rapidly. I have spoken to the vet and he will come to the house but I have no idea where I can bury her. She is a large dog so digging a hole in the garden is out of the question. I remember that sometime ago someone wrote on here that the animal sanctuary has such a facility. Could someone give my some help and advice please.

Hi Lynne,
I'm sorry to hear that you have such a decision to make. From my own experience, I think you will suddenly know when the time is right for her.
I'm not sure about the animal sanctuary, but I have seen a place in Ciftlik/Kargi that I think is a garden of rest for pets. Other members may know further details.

Hi Lynne, I have spoke with Emre today, they will be happy to do a hole for your dog at the shelter when the time comes, just make a donation the Shelter.

Please contact me when it happens and I will make the arrangements for you.

My daughter recently lost her lovely dog after a long struggle but felt guilt ridden when the time came. I found and sent her this poem (sorry if all you pet lovers have seen it before) but it did help her and perhaps will be some comfort to Sashbash.

The Last Battle.

If it should be that I grow frail and weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep, then will you do what must be done, for this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand, but don't let grief then stay your hand, for on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years, you wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, only, stay with me till the end.

And hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree,it is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you,who has to decide this thing to do;

We've been so close, we two, these years, don't let your heart hold any tears.

Dusty.

As an animal lover, unbelievable - bought tears to my eyes.  Thank you for those thoughts, which I am sure some of us will take with us when our time to loose our best friend comes.

Dear Sashbash
One of the hardest things i have ever had to do was sending my darling dogie Charlie on that trip to heaven.
It has been over 2 years since that day and we still miss him so very much, he was our baby for 15 years.
But i knew that it was the right time for his next journey to begin.
Think off all the happy times and how much love you shared.
Also the poem that dustyroad has put on this page is beautiful had tears all over again.
Be strong thinking of you.
Terrie

Thats a beautiful poem Dustyroad
Tears in my eyes and all over the keyboard

"And hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer see."
And so appropriate

I had to do this with two of our cats this year.It was heartbreaking! but less so than just leaving them alone with the vet.
I am sorry for your oncoming grief Sashbash. Just keep cuddling her until the last moment

 sorry for your future loss......

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Rainbow Bridge chokes me every time I read it John Boy.My darling Devon Rex cat had to be put to sleep 1 year 4months ago and unfortunately I was in the UK at the time.I'd had him for 16 wonderful years and he loved the sunshine of Turkey. We had 3 years here and he enjoyed every minute. My vet Ozgur was amazing and kept me informed every day of his progress when he became poorly but unfortunately I couldnt be with him when he padded over Rainbow Bridge.Broke my heart to get the news as I've always gone that extra mile with all my pets and held them when they passed away. The sorrow heals with time and if you have the strenght in your heart to go through it all again there's always another 'sweetie' waiting around the corner to fill the gap your precious pet hes left.
