Title: UK Photo Driving Licences
Post by: KKOB on January 02, 2011, 10:53:38 AM
Just a reminder that photographs on UK Driving Licences have to be renewed every 10 years.

The new style licences were first introduced in 1998 and drivers are now getting a renewal notice from the DVLA in future requesting a new photo and a £20 fee.

Well, despite the holiday break and the snow etc. I got my new licence and digital tachograph card back in 6 working days. Well done DVLA and the Post Office.

They are living in hope H. ;)
The dvla are normally quite fast but my tax ran out new years eve, and I cant pay online because I have changed my insurance, I wont take a chance and drive because I know someone who did the very same but because it was'nt registered with dvla they had their car taken off them and I dont trust this 14 days grace either.

I got caught out with the photo licence. Not realising that they expired after 10 years- in fact, I didn't realise the ten years was nearly up, how time flies, we went off on a six month trip to Australia - New Zealand and then back to Australia in October 2008. The reminder came through while we were in Australia so we missed it and when we went to hire the camper van in New Zealand the rental guy picked up on it. Luckily I had the paper counterpart which has the 'expires at age 70 date' on it and we managed to blag him into renting us the van. I got my sister to renew the licence for me back in the UK - she has a remarkably similar signature .......... and she posted it down to NZ. We picked it up in Christchurch 4 weeks later at the post office which enabled us to rent cars in the North Island and for the rest of the trip.

There has never been an official 14 day grace period.
