Title: Arsenal V Leeds United
Post by: stoop on January 03, 2011, 22:26:45 PM
Should be interesting. Not expecting to win and a low scoring defeat would be a result even if Wenger plays his 'kids'.

One or two for Leeds might be worth watching if they get a game:

Somma up front if he rests Becchio. He's a big strong old fashioned centre forward. Will put a few noses out of joint.

Howson in midfield.

Snodgrass on the right wing.

Mad Max Gradel on the left.

Sanchez Watt and Lloyd Sam - both quick and direct.

On ITV live:D

Cheers - I think we will need it but tom be honest tonight away to Cardiff is more important.

Really looking forward to seeing us against the Gunners though as no matter what team they put out it will be an attacking one which will suit our style of play.

It will be good to see an old rival again.
I have seen many a tussle in the old days...
Firm but fair.
I think we are taking all matches seriously this season,
we need a trophy!!!
I like Sanchez Watt, could be top draw one day.
Good luck to both of us.

Gutted, not going down to the Emirates because we are playing Sunderland and work comes first.....or so they tell me!!

Hope Arsenal get the win although I do like the way Leeds play and their attitude, Brother-in-Law going down as part of the 'Boston Whites' supporters so hope he has a good day.

I only hope that luck is on our side up at Sunderland and we can either win or draw as the money is much needed. Come on you Pies!!!

Westy to knock one in first, worth a bet!!

Should be a good game. Can't decide if I should watch at home on my own or go to the local and hope some Leeds lads are in. Banter could be good as there are a few gooners in the pub usually.

Problem is most of my Leeds mates are skiing this weekend (they are gutted to miss this one as they will be on the plane to France)so I could be all alone :(

Anyone fancy a beer in the Quaker tomorrow lunch?

Not such a good day to be a Gooner, poor performance across most of the team[:(!].

My son and I are thinking of travelling to the frozen north for the replay - subject to tickets and Sam Smiths availability  - perhaps staying at my daughter's place in t'Barnsley, thy knows.

Then again it is all Yorkshire, so perhaps best to head straight home ;)

Theo Walcott has admitted diving in an attempt to rescue Arsenal from an FA Cup defeat against Leeds United.

The Gunners were losing 1-0 to Leeds United in the 87th minute when Walcott was fouled by Alex Bruce, with referee Phil Dowd originally appearing to award a spot-kick before the linesman's flag went up for offside.

Speaking after the game Walcott said: "I thought [Dowd] did give the penalty to be honest. I just want to apologise to the managers, I actually dived trying to win the penalty.

"I said to one of their players would you have done it if it was the last few minutes and he said he I probably would have done it.

"I'm not the sort of player to do it, I own up to that and I apologise for that. It's one of those things that I don't like to see in my game. I've heard some people say if you feel just a slight touch you should go down so it can work both ways.

"I'm not happy with myself for doing that but I'm happy that we got the draw in the end. [Alex Bruce] was fine about it. Whether he knew if it was a penalty I don't know but I said sorry I'm trying to win the game. I had a little bit of a laugh and a joke with the referee afterwards saying that's the first dive I've ever done can you tell?"

Watched the match with an Arsenal legend, then sat with him again to watch his team lose to Notts County FC......hehe!

Gutted for the way Arsenal played, also for Theo cheating (he is a better player than that) but Leeds get the chance to do it on their own patch.

Casper has very kindly already offered us a couple of tickets if we want to go up and watch, he is a real gent...

OK - Leeds most Northern City left in the FA Cup:

Burnley FC is the most northerly club left in the FA Cup, Leeds is the most northely town or city with a team left in the FA Cup.

According to the World Geodetic System Turfmoor lies 53 degrees 47' 21'' N, Elland Road is 53 degrees 46'' 40'' N

Burnley however is apparently 53 degrees 47' 20.4'' N, slightly south of Leeds at 53 degrees 47' 59'' N

Oh and Chelsea were saints in the 70's were they? I can remember their skinhead crew wrecking a few places as well!

As for current champs - make the most of it because with the ageing team you have now it will be a while before it happens again.

Even a poor Manu are 7 points in front with a game in hand.

William Hill love your lot. Made a fortune out of bets on Chelsea last month  :)

You prove my point - even Manu with their own aging team are effectively out of site as far as Chelsea are concerned.

Even Drog said it's more about winning two games in a row than winning the title this season.

Then you look at Arsenal last night and what was effectively their second string. Different class :)They also have youngsters coming through and some out on loan, like Watt at our place, who are fantastic.

I was very impressed with Leeds over the two legs, however I think they might suffer the same fate of other teams with promising players; e.g. Johnson I think is out of contract at the end of the season and he might get picked up by a bigger club others too might go especially if Leeds fall short of automatic promotion. And the longer Leeds are out of the top tier the harder it will be to catch up with the current Premiership leaders.
