Can anyone suggest a good car parking place near the centre of Fethiye.
I've finally decide to hire a car, but I'll probably end up with loads of parking tickets.
-
There is a car park right on the harbour edge - next to the monument just past carrefour on the right (after the one way system splits)... I think its about 7tl for a full day's parking....
-
I use the one at the other end of the harbour - up the road where MacDonalds is, and when levelish with MacDonalds on your left, turn right. Pay the little man at the kiosk, proceed, park. If there is no man and no kiosk, and you are feeling suddenly much colder and having difficulty breathing, it isn't exactly a right turn at MacDonalds at all, and you have just driven into the sea.
The beauty of this one is you always get somewhere to park.
-
we also use that one, but don't even think about it on a Tuesday !!! (market day !).
Although that said, you can always get a decent fish and chip meal from Popeyes while you wait.....mmmm
-
If is in the school holidays you can always park in the playgrounds of the schools on the one way system into Fethiye centre I think it was only 2 or 3 TL last year for all day :)
-
I park by the Hello Cafe on the prom, its free, and a nice walk into town.
-
Just use the on street parking. It's dead easy. One of the lads/or lasses in the orange uniforms will take your money and get a ticket for you. Most of them speak a bit of English so you won't have a problem making yourself understood.
-
If you park around town in the parking designated areas (as we do) just leave the car when you come back you will have a ticket on it with the time, then you just pay one of the parking guys whatever the charge is...simples.
We have never used a car park yet.
-
Depends really how long you are staying in town for. If you have a couple of hours there, definately park in a car park, alot cheaper than on the road parking! I always park in the one at the Nufus office building, across from the Belediye offices. If you have a couple of things to do and won't be long then just use the on road parking.
-
That's great, thanks everyone. :)
-
But remember, if using the road parking, never park in front of a sign with a big "D" on it, this is a bus stop, and your car will be towed if you are caught parking there.

Yabanci, foreigners, cannot park at the schools

Yes and what ever you do, if you can't find a designated parking space, DONT try to squeeze in on the end...because it could result in a ticket and fine :-\ :o 8)

The zebra crossing outside the PTT is always popular as a place to park

We always parked in the schools during the holidays, never a problem and never to go else where. Is this a new ruling?

In that case why did the attendant take my money on several occasions last year and show me to a parking space in the playground?
-
"Pocket money"? :D
-
Not sure about pocket money, we always got a receipted ticket, obviously above board.
-
This is Turkey!
-
I got a receipted ticket every time!

On any day except Tuesday or Friday you can park on the Tuesday Market site or in the streets either side of the canal leading down to the harbour for free. We always park there and enjoy the walk along the sea front into town.

We park as close to the shops as possible. After walking around the last thing we want is a long walk in the hot sun back to the car carrying shopping, which usually includes fruit from the market.
For the few lira charged to park in town it's well worth it compared to the parking charges in the U.K.
;)

I agree with what you are saying Jacqui, I meant if you just wanted a walk around Fethiye. We generally shop at Migros or Kipa and if we go to the market to shop we park on their little car park and pay.
