You couldn't have picked better than the Oykun.  It's a lovely hotel with wonderful staff who will make you feel at home right away.  We've stayed there for the last few years and heartily recommend it.

Having said that we are having a change this year and staying in an apartment, though I think we'll be back at the Oykun sometime.

 :)

The Oykun sounds really good. We have booked bed and breakfast but not sure if we should upgrade to half board

Hi Bella, welcome to the Forum, Calis is a superb location, you can enjoy the beech, the wonderful surroundings and meet super people but remember, be adventurous, get out and explore. That is how you will discover the real Turkey, culture and people. 8)

We always stayed bed and breakfast and wouldn't do half board.  As you will find when you get to Calis, there are so many lovely restaurants for an evening meal you'll be spoilt for choice and I guarantee you can't get round them all in two weeks.  Be sure to try the ones away from the promenade too, there are plenty who serve fantastic food and cheaper than the promenade, although it is nice to eat overlooking the sea and watching the sunset.

The Oykun do pretty good lunches and evening meals and you've always got the option of eating there too even if you are just B & B.

Just keep checking this site for recommendations for good places to eat and you won't be disappointed.   :)

Welcome Bella, it might be your first visit to Turkey but I'm sure it won't be your last. You have picked a great place to start, nice lot of folks in Calis, and Fethiye is a great little town, lovely harbour area, shops and even our own bit of culture, (the rock tombs) hope you and your hubby have a lovely holiday.

Hi Bella, we used to go to Greece every year (Corfu loads of times) and tried Turkey 3 years ago. I can tell you that Turkey is 'head and shoulders' above Greece. I know you will have a great time, enjoy.

Hi Bella - what dates are you going to the Oykun - my husband and I are going from 14th to 28th May?  We have stayed there before and it is one of the best.  The lady on Reception (who everyone calls Goldie) is great, she is very helpful and Oykun the owner is lovely too.  The staff are friendly and helpful.  I am sure you will have a great time but do go out for meals at night, one of the most enjoyable things is being able to walk up and down the promenade and choose what you want to eat from the variety of different restaurants, we think it is part of the holiday. Good Luck and we might just be able to say hello.

Hi Bella
You will not be lost for long at the Oykun!  It is so friendly, everyone smiles at you and they are so courteous.  It is just off the main strip down a paved road so once you get your bearings you will not have a problem.  There are some great restaurants in Calis and you can also get the dolmus (small mini-van taxis which stop wherever you put your hand up and charge about 1.50 Tl to go into Fethiye the nearest town.  During the day you can also get the water taxi from the wooden bridge and go across the bay to Fethiye and last year it cost 5Tl and it is a great experience.
I will look out for you at the Oykun.
Enjoy
Janet

Welcome to CBF I am sure you will have a great time here with so much to do and see.

There are so many nice restaurants here that I am sure B&B is a good choice. Everywhere is very accessible and you will find yourself spoilt for choice.

Is it best to take Turkish Lira, travellers cheques or euros to Calis?
Title: new member
Post by: Highlander on May 01, 2011, 19:09:25 PM
The general consensus is to take just enough lira to last you through the first day or so and then change when in Calis as you will get a better rate there.

Cannot comment on whether euros are better than GBP.

Travellers cheque are no problem to change.

Hope this helps. Have a lovely time. :)

Hi Janet
My daughter and son in law have decided to join us. They have booked independently and are going Sunday 22nd to 29th. We are traveliing with Thomsons on Monday 23rd. Although we got a good price with Thomsons they worked out £100 cheaper and that is including pick up with Oykun from the airport. Something for us to think about for next year. So look out for Lisa and Alan on the 22nd
