Anyone know what the word is for someone who uses long or complicated words to make themselves appear more intelligent than they actually are ?
-
Member of parliament?
-
Googled it and it came up with this
grandiloquent - puffed up with vanity; "a grandiloquent and boastful manner"; "overblown oratory"; "a pompous speech"; "pseudo-scientific gobbledygook and pontifical hooey"- Newsweek

There can't be many forums where you get two pages of suggestions within the first half hour.

Anyone know the word for someone who gets other people to list long or complicated words to make themselves appear more stupid than they actually are ?
-
Why so offensive Colwyn?
-
I think he meant the people listing long words making themselves look stupid, rather than the person who asked them to Steve?
-
No offence intended Steve. I merely took your question and turned it round a bit to suggest in looking for a word you had turned many of us, including me, into people who used long and/or complicated words. And then we when got it wrong we - not you - looked stupid. Just a thought that amused me.
So I guess my contribution is wrong then?
-
Sorry Colwyn,I was too quick to jump there.I have checked with my daughter who is the driver of this and she says no one has it yet .I bet she is totally mixed up about what she means anyway, teenage girls often are !
