Hi there is a small shop at the side of Patlangic market past the chicken lady that does ground almonds by weight. My friend buys all her there.Hope this helps.

Oh smashing. Thanks very much!!

1. buy fresh almonds on market (bit dry this time of year - sept optimal)
2. place almonds in boiling water for 4 mins
3. run cold water over them and the skins will come off easily
4. place in dish or similar to dry out for 24 hours - do not cover or they will go mouldy!
5. stick the lot in a food processor and blitz for a few mins - hey presto fresh ground almonds!
I've made almond slices and marzipan this way and it works a treat.

Brill, and so simple. Will try, thanks. Probably better doing it myself anyway, eh!

Ps forgot to mention - dont get the salted ones! theres two types usually on sale on the markets normal and the salted. Make sure they're unsalted and also like i said best time is september straight off the tree if possible. Planning on doing an Almond wine this year too.

It is cheaper to buy the ground almonds at the shop by Patlangic market than to buy fresh ones have have the hassle of skinning them and grinding your own
-
Very true - but you cant beat the freshness or taste of your own freshly ground ones - try making almond slices with both versions and you will see what i mean. PS you can do a decent white medium wine with 50gr of almonds with 500g of sultanas as well. PM me if you want the recipe.
PPS the really fresh ones will be ready shortly - next month - find a neighbor who has some almond trees on their land - i promise you will be amazed at the flavor of the fresh ones.
