It isnt good news for the Nil Bar. looks like Teo;s place is right next to their Hotel rooms.
-
Will Memhet still be owner of the Orient?
-
We think Mehmet is opening the Orient again, and just renting out the bar over the top. Looking forward to seeing it next month - hopefully it will be finished and up and running by late May.
-
yes he is and there trying for the first week in may
-
Lets hope its the 1st week in May as we fly out on the 2nd 8)
-
And us on the 12th

Just got back from Calis and the Orient is open. They have an official opening night this Saturday. The place has been totally transformed. The menu has also been changed, no rice and chips combo.
Some may be disappointed as their old favourites from the menu wont be there. There is more indoor seating space with air conditioning which might be handy for the summer months.

i was upstairs with tansu and mesut last night its open and looking wonderful but there still doing some finishing touches
-
Would love to see some photos if anyone has any!

So I take it I'll have to wait until September to see it then?
-
This reminds me of the Savoy in London - one of the most exclusive hotels in the World but they must pay their head chef really badly as I've lost count of how many restaurants I've eaten in where the chef used to be head chef at the Savoy.

Wasn't the chef at La Terrace from Istanbul. Well that's what Tansu said.
Mind you, he was a fantastic chef :)
-
He was - at one time the only man in Calis who could do a decent steak :)
-
Absolutely - his steak diane has fabulous. Whatever happened to him -did he go back to Istanbul ;)
-
Don't know why La Terrace is no more - it was a lovely place to eat and watch the sunset. They also employed lovely people as waiters.
One of our favourites when it was there.
-
Think you mean Cem, and he is now married, and living elsewhere, but cant remember which country, I taught him how to do welsh rarebit,he loved it, nice chap too.
-
I know I'm taking this off topic but does anyone remember the first chef Phil & Louise had when they managed the Lighthouse - concoctions like Jack Daniels Steak and the steak special the name of which I forget but it was two little steaks, one in a mushroom sauce and the other in red wine sauce (I think) each served on top of toasted bread. It was a revelation as menus in Calis go, with everyone else still copying each other's menus. Classic stuff.
-
I can certainly remember that menu at the lighthouse and agree it was a revelation. We loved it! they also did those deep fried ice cream things which were amazing! Loved the place then- the bar and the music was really chilled too went most nights if not for dinner then for drinks. They also did ace espresso! You just get used to a place and .........
-
such a shame what happenened to the Lighthouse, Phil and Louise were excellent hosts and had the place buzzing but like so many others the landlord gets greedy and finished it off.
Phil and Lou are still excellent hosts but at the Sugar Beach Club in Oludeniz, excellent place for a day out.
now back on topic...The Orient, havent eaten there yet but had a few beers during the recent fashion show which was a great success.

John, Bekir is Mehmets brother. He does not work at the Orient but is usually around that area. He has had a few medical probs in the last year or so.

Hi we have just come back from Calis and we spent a few nights in this bar. Great Deco and atmosphere and the staff were lovely. :-)

We ate at the Orient on the opening night. There were no prices on the menu but we thought ah well let's have a word with the boss. He tols us that he would give us a reduction on the bill. We really enjoyed the food. Al a cart. You know what I mean, small protions but really nice food. We got the bill it was a tad more expensive that we expected for the Orient but never the less it was lovely food and the staff are really nice. I think that we will only eat there on special occasions though due to the price. Good luck to the owner I hope he does well.
-
No prices on the menu :o. Won't be eating there until there are Heather.
-
Yes me neither H have been caught out so many times in the past (not from this particular establishment I hasten to add!)it is one of mine and Mr Karennina's rules now i am afraid[?]
-
We ate there twice last week, all prices on the menu, much about the same prices as previous, the food was excellent, good to see decent food without the usual rice, chips etc, more like Paspatour, certainly worth a visit, but then again the Orient was always one of our fav places to eat, also seen George, he is working there for a couple of weeks before headib
g back to UK.
-
All the prices were on the menu when we were there. Yes I agree a little more expensive but the food was oustanding. I had beef medallions, you get two medallions but one would have been plenty, so good. Then upstairs for a drink or few! ;-)
-
The new building of the Orient is a big improvement over the previous.
Very light,bright and tastefully decorated.
Food was exceptionally good and very well presented.
In the evenings the staff wear a smart casual uniform which adds to the overall improved appearance of the restaurant.
Prices were good.
Further to my earlier post I did make contact with Bekir.
-
Great food as always, but I think the place had more character before it was renovated.
-
If you want character you should've seen the Orient when the loos were the authentic Turkish stand up ones and the chickens on the spits were hosed down outside the loos:-\! The place had some character then!Looking forward to seeing the changes this time.:D
