I have flights to Portugal in April with Jet 2 where they offer the option to 'check in on line'.
I have never done this before so is there any advantage to it?
They mention a baggage drop area for checked in luggage but I do not remember any specific area for this at Glasgow Airport.
I have been told by a friend that you still have to join the normal queue to check in.
Anyone done this at Glasgow?

I have done this once with them and at Leeds Bradford they did have a dedicated drop off point for those who had checked in on-line. It meant no queues for us that time.
We always do it if we can - especially long haul.
-
The problem is, most people check in on-line these days - so basically all the check in desks become bag drop desks and the queue is almost as long as a check in queue!

The beauty of checking in online for me is for short haul long weekends for example - get everything you need for a few days into your hand luggage and head straight for the gate - none of this checking in two hours before, and no luggage charges either :)

Haha! You just wait until those girls of yours get a bit older - there's no way you'll be getting everything in hand luggage! ;)
(Speaking as a mother of two, now grown up, daughters!!) :D

Haha to you too! When they are a bit older, they still ain't coming!
-
Aye that's what you are saying now !!!! Wait and see.

From experience I can tell you they will not come in their teens, but when they hit their twenties they will come and bring their partners ;) Then as time goes on they will come bring their partners and your Grandchildren:D

The girls were not too impressed with us saying we were going to Venice for a long weekend and that they would be going to their gran's. I explained that I went to Venice with the school and as a kid I found it boring. I told them they wouldn't enjoy looking at old houses and smelly canals. " We would, we would" they protested. "We love places like that, we will find it interesting too". They couldn't be told otherwise. So, I decided that making Venice sound boring wasn't working. "OK then, if you really think you'd love Venice, I'd let you come too". (Cheers). "Ah, I've had another idea" I said. "Which would you choose - we all go to Venice, or me and mum go to Venice and when we get back we'll go to that theme park for the day?".
"THEME PARK!!!"
Job done :D

So you won on both counts Scunner:D

Last year our flight dalaman to manchester was with jet2 who offered check-in online. this was cheaper than check-in desk service by £12. I didn't do the online check-in and when we got to the airport, everyone had to queue as they didn't have the bag drop facility ! i could have saved £12 and still had to have queued up
-
As I live fairly close to Glasgow Airport I took a look in to check it out.
When I was in there were no Jet2 flights scheduled but I saw that other operators marked a check in desk on the monitor as 'bag drop off' leaving the others for the same flight as normal 'check in'.
Probably should have called in personally sooner.
Why am I worrying???
I'm going on holiday and got time to spare.

The only advantage to checking in on line is if you have no hold luggage.
Glasgow and Faro had dedicated bag drops but as an earlier poster said so many people check in on line there are inevitably queues.
The process was no quicker than normal check in.
On the plus side there was the largest amount of leg room on any charter flight I have ever been on.
-
I am off to H next week and have been offered to check in online with TC. I've never done this before, and am just thinking what if my case (one between 2 of us)is over weight, how do they check it? I know TC are quite strict and charge for everything.
Can't see the point really if it means you still have to queue as well :-( Don't know what to do now??

Well in fairness another advantage is (with Jet2 anyway) that it is cheaper too. Agree with you on legroom though - for most FTC flights I have to decide whether to wedge my knees in straight or angled, whereas on Jet2 there are several inches between knee and seat in front.

I use online check in all the time. Mainly to get the seat that I want and not end up being back of the bus. I also use seatguru.com to check where the worst seats are and avoid them.
Never heard of paying to check in. Is that a common thing with these cheap airlines now?
