Never have and no intention - unless it's the only way I can get somewhere.

Despite my husband's vow never to fly with Ryanair we did last year for the first time as we needed to fly into a small airport in the south of France, where they seem to have a bit of a monopoly, so no real choice.

We had an excellent flight down so no complaints there.  On checking in to fly back home a week later we found that there were no flights due to a French public workers strike.  The Ryanair staff on the desk were wonderful in getting us booked on another flight the following day, albeit from another airport not far away, but it was going back to Liverpool where we'd come from (and where the car was waiting) and at no extra cost to us either.  No complaints from me at all and OH grudgingly admitted he couldn't find anything either!

Do we really know everything other airlines are charging us for anyway?

Well there is a point - they could easily have just added the 2 quid to each fare and said nothing, but as usual, the press is full of Ryanair AGAIN! They must have the most publicity for the lowest advertising budget in the industry - they play the press like an old joanna time and time again!!!

:)  I think that's why everyone hates them and says they'll never fly with them.

But I don't think they're that much worse than other low cost airlines.  Jet2 for instance must have the highest luggage check-in charges of them all.  You start off booking what looks like a nice cheap flight and by the time you get to adding on baggage charges it's shot up!  Think last time I looked it was almost £40 for a return flight per person.  When others can charge about half that, where's the extra going?

Flew down to Lanzarote with them a couple of weeks ago, no problems, quick bag drop off, plenty of leg room, cabin staff brilliant and the flight was early both ways, you get for what you pay for with Ryan Air, would defo fly with them again, only gripe was £5.95 for 1 small bottle of wine.

The recent Jet2 flights I've been on have suffered from nobody checking in luggage (as it is so expensive) so everyone taking wheelie cabin size cases - meaning there simply isn't anywhere near like enough overhead locker space for it all. What do they do? Get the ground staff to stick in in the hold! It's getting ludicrous, Easyjet are the same - everyone avoids paying for hold baggage and the net result is that the company that scrapped boarding passes and seat numbers to expedite boarding now have queues right down the steps as we all wait for everyone in front of us to try and crowbar their hand luggage in.

Yes, and why do they always seem oblivious to the fact that people are actually waiting behind them to get to their seats!

I do that :D

What else can you do though, it has to go in the overhead locker and I can't do that from my seat...

:D think we're probaby all guilty of that at times, but easier to put up with when you're going on holiday than when you're coming back!!!  ;)

I always wonder, what with the checks on passengers, how anyone with oversize hand luggage is allowed to reach the aeroplane.
On one occasion a bag I had carried as hand luggage for around 5 years was refused and had to be checked in as hold luggage.
Once settled in my seat a bloke walked past struggling with what looked like an occupied 'body bag' and none of the cabin crew even commented.

We used ryanair for the first time last month and for £48 return each to Malaga i dont think an extra £2 charge would have stopped us from booking. Also using them next week to Faro for £38each rtn and again I dont think £40 instead of £38 would have put us off booking.

I also thought legroom was fine and staff good. 8)

A friend of our booked to go from Scotland to Ireland this week with Ryan Air.  The advertised cost of the flight ws £8.00 return. He ended up paying £80.00 after all the extras.
About 4 years ago my son and his friend went to Rome with Ryan Air.  They took a suitcase each and when it was the cases were weighed going out they were fine.  They bought no presents or souvenirs but when they arrived at the airport to return they were told that both cases where over weight and had to pay £35.00 each.  Apparently this happened to lots of people on the flight and there was nearly a bust up with one irate guy from Glasgow who had to be take away to calm down.

John H - we've always thought that too. There doesn't seem to be any rules for hand luggage, even though all airlines have their maximum luggage sizes advertised.

All in all, from our one experience of Ryanair last year, flying from Liverpool to Carcassonne I would certainly not hesitate to use them again.  We paid £201 for the two of us, return flights, including on-line check-in, an admin fee (I think) and one piece of checked in luggage each. This was right at the end of August.  Another £2 each wouldn't have made much difference.

If it happened to a lot of people on the Rome flight (Jacqui's post) then I would have queried whether the scales at Rome were dodgy (or not)
I've had a couple of flights with Ryannair recently and would agree with the comments made by Marina.  Flights were on time, cheap, cabin crew cheerful and would definitely fly with them again.  No frills, no hassle, and they certainly didn't bang on constantly about lottery tickets, meals etc. etc. like Thomas Cook.  Oh, and by the way, only 10p of the Tom Cook lottery is given to the charity so they pocket the rest:-\
