There was a time we got a lower exchange rate in England. 95p to our £1

Suddenly independence from the sassenachs doesn't look so attractive ;)

Keith if you are in Prague do not miss the Ungelt Club. Fabulous place and the resident group are wonderful.

I wander what would happen in the case of independence, the main reason at present that no one likes the Scottish currency is that its not exactly legal tender, so a hassle to change it.

I am back now thanks Jacqui :)
Being a good photographer seems to come easily in Prague ;)

We climbed from the old town to the castle (pictured) two days running, and it wasn't easy. On the second occasion we decided to climb the bell tower of the cathedral - so at the highest point of Prague we climbed to it's highest point. I felt like Delboy, I thought I was going to have a 'Connery'!
Views are absolutely amazing up there:

Snap - my photo from the same spot 9 weeks earlier, when I also suffered a near 'Connery' going up all those steps ... spooky :o

Wow that is pretty spooky indeed [:o] I think you chose a better time of day for the sun though :)
I think there is a definite failing in the human brain that is exposed here. We can make calculations in split seconds without even knowing it, and do so hundreds of times every day. But the human mind cannot begin to calculate when inside a structure, how many spiral staircase steps more it might be before you reach the top of a tower of known height. You just keep going until there are no more steps above you :D

That's an amazing coincidence. The 2 photos are almost identical. Prague is a lovely city. Only been once, but will definatly go back again.
:D

I found that the escalators in the Prague metro messed with my mind. They are unfeasibly steep and if you are going down the people going up look as though the are falling over backwards; when you are going up they look as though they are all about to fall on their noses. I couldn't shake this illusion in the week I was there.

my claim to fame is I was a frequent visitor to eastern Europe include Czechoslovakia in the good old days prior to the break up. Ahhh those were the days-even the views seemed better then, certainly no stag/hen parties boking everywhere
Nostalga-aint what it used to be

History is a thing of the past mate. It's funny, whereas the airport seemed full of stag/hen groups, and there were a few on our plane, and at the airport in Prague, we never saw a single group in the 3 days we were there. They must go to a part of town we didn't, which was nice. They all think they are the first group ever to have identical T shirts made for everyone in their party, hilarious.
-
Last time we were there we did not see any stag or hen parties either. It was Winter, just before Christmas and we only stayed three days and of course, the night club we went to, on two nights would not suit stag or hen nights. My husband thinks the guys and the lead guitar are better than Santana and he is dying to go back just to visit this club again. I think the stag and hens would just want head banging and getting drunk.

Also it appears that cheap destinations like Latvia, Estonia etc are getting a large proportion of this 'trade' now as flights, accommodation and beer are all much cheaper than Prague. In fact, they are possibly exactly like Prague used to be.
