The Promises for the 2011 Charity Auction are starting to come in so I will be posting bidding instructions and adding new Promises on a regular basis over the next 3 weeks - Watch this space!!!!

The annual Charity Promises Auction will take place following Carnival Week on Wednesday 1 June. We will be setting up the auctioneer's podium on the seafront in front of the Nil Bar and Dennis the Menace Restaurants on Calis promenade and the auction starts at 7.00 pm. We will be using all of the restaurants from Dennis the Menace to Bostans. Visible items up for auction will be on display from 6.00 pm
We already have some great promises pledged for this very popular and important fundraising event which is the premier fundraising event of our year and all proceeds go directly to help the children in the local area.
Thanks to the generosity of our "pledgers" and our bidders the 2010 Carnival week auction raised 9,000 TL which went a long way to helping the kids and we would love to equal or better this total.
The "promises" already pledged for this year's auction are listed below and I will be adding to this list on a regular basis as new "promises" come in. If anyone would like to pledge a "promise" or donate an item for the auction please could you e-mail me via my profile or at info@caliscarnival.com. All "promises" will be gratefully accepted.
We have some brilliant promises pledged already, many by members of this forum and we cannot thank them enough.
As in previous years, commission e-mail bids both from Turkey and the UK will be accepted.
BIDDING INSTRUCTIONS
Here are the details for bidding, both for those who are able to attend the auction and for those who are bidding by e-mail.
Those attending on the night wanting to make bids will be asked to complete a form on arrival at the restaurants giving your name address and contact details. You will then be provided with a "Bidding Number" card (cost 1TL) as in UK auctions. You will also be able to pre-register and obtain a bidding card from the restaurants during the same day. You will not be able to bid unless you have a bidding card. This makes it easier both for the auctioneer and for administering the winning bids. Money will be collected on the night where possible, "Promises" issued and official receipts given. For those unable to pay on the night, payment will be required within 7 days of the close of auction or the item will be withdrawn. In these cases the "Promise" will not be issued until the payment is received.
For those bidding by e-mail, please e-mail us with your commission bid at info@caliscarnival.com or you can e-mail me through my profile on this forum.
Advise us what you are bidding on and how much you are prepared to bid up to and our auctioneer will bid on your behalf up to your maximum bid - just like a real auction or on e-bay. Bids will be accepted up to 12 midnight Turkish time (10.00 pm English time) on the night of Tuesday 31 May when this facility will close.
All e-mail bids received will be acknowledged within 24 hours of receipt.
If you are a winning bidder we will e-mail you the day following the auction and advise how much the item has cost you. It will not necessarily be your maximum bid. We will then advise you how to make your payment (there are different methods depending on whether you are in UK or Turkey). Payment will be required within 7 days of the auction or your bid will be void.
You will receive a copy of your "Promise" signed by the person donating by e-mail giving full contact details of how to contact them and how to claim your promise as well as a receipt for your payment once the funds have cleared through our account. A hard copy of the "Promise form" will also be sent to you in UK by the next supporter who is returning to UK. We will also arrange for any physical goods to be delivered to you as and when this can be arranged.
I hope that this clarifies the bidding system which has worked successfully for the last 4 auctions.

Set of Art Deco Coffee Bean Spoons. Made circa 1920. The spoons are silver plated each is marked for the famous maker Yeoman of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England the business established 1897. Now a division of Douglas Pell Silverware (founded in 1972). Concentrates on making silver plated items, both in giftware and tableware. It is the silver giftware supplier to Harrods and other prestigious names world-wide, including Asprey & Garrard, Royal Palaces, Liberty, Fortnum & Mason, Goldsmiths. The spoons have black Bakelite tops. Spoon come in red leather box which has suffered over the last 90 years and the hinges are broken. A matching parure of 1960's Costume Jewellery Comprising a a necklace in faux white gold which is set with faux Ceylon sapphires in faux platinum. The centre of the necklace has a faux sapphire flower and below this is a pear shaped drop encrusted with faux sapphires and having a large pear faux sapphire in the centre. Necklace measures 17" long, made for a smaller neck. The set is completed with a pair of matching faux sapphire earrings, made for pierced ears, they are particularly fine they have a faux flower at the top and a large pear shaped drop, total measurement 1 1/2" Both pieces in very good condition, no damage, plastic backs for posts on earrings are replacements.

Hi Sunlover the picture of the necklace is now on as well as loads more promises and pictures of promises.
For those reading this I will continue to update the big list daily (see third post in this thread). There are lots more promises coming in and I still have loads to put on so keep looking (the new items are not always added to the bottom of the list but interspersed with the others to make the list more interesting so make sure you don't miss something that you would like :D

Glenn as the current picture are already on the site, it would be difficult for Chrissie to add a coin to them. Can say that the Saman bracelets are stretchable to fit all wrists and very, very, nice. I know,I own 29 of them :o I am addicted :-\

Glenn it is a good idea and one that we will try and use when taking new photos, but as Jacqui rightly says it is difficult with those already on the site. In the meantime I will try and add measurements where I can. Anything to help.

Hi Bob, thanks for your suggestion. However as the auction does not actually start until the night of 1 June, all commission bids received on-line are kept totally secret. I am the only one who knows what they are and even our auctioneer does not know until the night of the auction. However if someone has made a bid on the internet and another bid does comes in on the same item which equals or is higher, I will e-mail the first bidder to see if they wish to increase their maximum bid (a bit like e-bay but I will not say what the higher bid is). We will then start the bidding on the night at whatever the higher of the 2 commission bids is - again it does not necessarily mean that it will be the on-line bidders maximum bid. Whatever then happens on the night is down to the generosity of the crowd.

We have received some really great promises today so have a look. I know that a certain forum member will be very happy as the Delta Hotel have again promised us a 1 night stay in the their rooftop terrace suite subject to availability :D

We had a man come up to us at the Spring Fair today. He is kindly pledging a brand new set of Peter Alliss golf clubs in a carrying case and boxed. They are thought to be worth about £300. These are presently located in UK but they could be bought out to Turkey if the winning bid come from there. We are due to be e-mailed full details of the set and piccies later this week so keep an eye out on the main auction list at the top of this thread :D

The hamper which was raffled at the charity beach BBQ tonight was won by the forum's own Sunlover Carole Bacon. Carole and her husband Dave have generously donated the hamper back to the committee to auction at the forthcoming Promises Auction - a huge thanks to Carole and Dave.
The hamper includes a 1 ltr bottle of Grants whiskey and Ex-pat items including tinned ham and Cadbury's cream eggs! A picture of the hamper and a full list of the contents will be posted tomorrow.
