When the family are over, I intend to take them to the museum for one of their excellent Turkish breakfasts. Quite close to the museum is a waterfall that I'd also like to see, however, my sister-in-law is due to have an operation on her foot 2 days after coming back to the UK. As such, has anyone done this walk & can let me know how easy / arduous it is? Obviously, I don't want to drag her up a cliff face if it means she will be confined to barracks for the remainder of the holiday.

I have visited the museum on many occasions and walked around the area but havent seen a waterfall? the tow path follows the small canal all the way around the walk which is fairly level.
-
we have visited the waterfall the museum owner will give you instructions how to get there it's not uphill look around the museum it's very good

We did that one at the begining of the winter, turning right as you come away from the museum, to get to the waterfall, it's a left turn according to the owner, but as it was starting to rain quite heavily, we didn't bother that time
-
How have you missed this one Andy? It's hardly Angel falls but it is a nice easy walk.

hmmmm...

After a particularly large breakfast at the museum last year (oh ok then, we will have a third pan of fried eggs, another plate of tomatoes, more bread : it's like a bizarre eating competition :. mmm, a plate of cold broccoli and carrots, yes please!) - the owner came over and said "Please, you come to my Saklikent, it is very beautiful". So we all jumped onto the back of his pickup and tore off down the tarmac road and turned off onto a dirt track, or probably more correctly, turned off onto his practise rally special stage. Sitting on the back of the pick up it felt like we were on a Rally experience day but without the crash helmets, full harness seatbelts (or even seats!), the steel roll cage or for that matter any noticeable safety equipment. To make matters worse we were being driven by a man on an extremely tight time schedule or maybe just someone that had lost the will to live. Still I suppose one advantage of a pick up is the fact that in an accident you could (possibly) get catapulted to somewhere (relatively) safer than the actual crash site. Anyway we survived the journey with only minor cuts, a few major bruises and a lot of serious muscle strain from the clenched buttocks.
Ok, Saklikent it's not, but it is still very beautiful, has a small icy pool of water to jump into and a view I would love to have at the bottom of my garden; and being able to enjoy our visit with a heightened appreciation of all things living through just surviving the traumatic journey, made the experience all the more memorable.
I would ask directions and walk, it's not far.
Just to be on the safe side though, I would agree and rehearse excuses for not accepting a lift from the owner; like "No, no, even though my sister-in-law has a bad foot she really would prefer to hop all the way there."

Nice story Gry, have never been to the waterfall before but will - on foot 8)
I love their breakfast :P :D

We plan to take friends to Kargi Museum for breakfast, but the only time we can do it is during Bayram. Would it be too busy during this time? Not having been in Turkey during Bayram I dont know what to expect with regards to Turkish families eating out etc. Many thanks, Val

This is one place we are heading off to when we arrive in 6 weeks time, have heard so much about it thought it about time we got there.
-
A party of 14 of us had breakfast with Enver on Friday. Just one of the best places to eat a Traditional breakfast in the area.
Enver used his truck to take 9 of our friends to the waterfall - we followed behind in our car.
It was a bumpy ride but the girls loved the journey.
You take the Cenger road along the canal road back towards Ciftlik from Yoruk Muze and then turn left over the canal and up the hill, after aprox 1/2 mile take the left hand track and carry on for a further 1/2 mile. You come to the river feeding the canal and then the watefall. Which is ice cold and refreshing. Climb the wall and follow the gorge for a lovely walk. The waterfall is more man made than natural but still lovely.
Not somewhere I would walk to In July/August - but can see us going there on our bikes when the weather is cooler.
Have a good time if you get there.
-
sounds good to me:D
on the bikes for us as th weather will be a bit cooler in 6 weeks time.
-
Can anyone advise if would it be too busy during Bayram please? Many thanks, Val

Where is the Kargi Museum please?
-
Excellent! I've been here twice but never knew about the waterfall. Just when you think you've seen all there is to see... You've gotta love the CBF.
-
hi Teresa,Kargi is a village on the dalaman road from fethiye. Ciftlick first then Kargi.
If you catch the dolmus the driver will drop you off at the junction and you can walk up to the museum. If he is not busy he might even drive you up.
-
Thank you Frank - can we get the dolmus from Calis or would we need to go to Fethiye and what would be on the front of the bus?
-
It starts from calis dolmus stop in fethiye.Ask the guy ther he will put you right.
Could be Katranci and Gunluclu on the front.
You can stop the bus on the main road through Gunlabasci, but for your first time try fethiye.
-
Thanks Frank we'll give that a try in September.

No problem picking up the dolmus for Kargi on the main road thro Gunlukbasi, the one you need is colour coded black ie the bonnet of the bus is painted black

We went here for breakfast today. It was excellent. There was also a tour bus taking a family up to the falls and the canyon. He said hop in my car you can come. We went up there had a paddle and he cut us all up a huge watermelon which we ate sitting on the rocks and then he took us of a tour of his fruit trees and gardens etc. He gave us figs straight from the trees. Wonderful back for a beer and all this for 20TL each.

Most of the posts have been about the waterfall but nothing said about the actual museum. So can someone enlighten me as to what the museum contains that makes it worth visiting more than once like a few of you have.Is it the museum itself or the setting it is situated in.I am intrigued to know.
Thank You.
-
I think its the fantastic breakfast. It was too hot when we were there in July to look round the museum, but we will return for the breakfast next month and probably even look round the museum
-
Thats a great reply and had us all laughing here. You go to a museum that happens to sell breakfast and the breakfast is so fantastic you dont bother looking around the museum because of the heat. :)
Has anyone actually looked around the museum? Come on own up there must be someone who has and does,nt just go for the brekkies :)
-
errmmm, Ive been a few times now and haven't looked round the museum either.... the baby donkey is worth seeing though, and the breakfast is amazing.
The atmosphere and setting are wonderful, Ive seen the museum in the distance, its things like cartwheels and butter churns, farming tools etc , just adds to the ambience and the experience of the food I think
-
We've been there twice with different guests and have visited and enjoyed the museum each time. The owner is very proud of it and is a real gentleman and enthuses about his Yoruk heritage. Not to be missed after such a wonderful breakfast.
-
Have done the breakfast and the museum and both are brilliant....the museum has so much in it, really interesting.....the turkeys are very amusing as well .....lol
-
My Turk partner visited there for the first time, while working for his new business, two weeks ago and says we have to try it one Sunday his only day off, he was very impressed and also surprised that I knew about this place, but I only know what Ive read on this Forum Never been yet!
My only problem is that I dont eat breakfasts! Will have to go though If I can drag myself out on a Sunday, Usually just have a Kokorec on Calis market for lunch
-
The museum is fairly small & contains a hotch potch of exhibits; downstairs are mainly agricultural items & upstairs household bits & pieces, old newspapers etc etc. Definitely worth a look, but the day I took the family, the baby donkey was the star attraction as it was only 2-3 weeks old at the time.
-
We have been many, many, times. We always take friends when they are out and it is one of the best memories that they have of their holiday. The breakfast is really great (has to be the best village breakfast I have ever had in Turkey) but the museum is fascinating even after so many visits. For those who are trying to find it for the first time though it is quite difficult as it it is tucked away up the lanes by the canal at the back of Kargi village. Enver the owner and his family are lovely and they always give us a breakfast for 4 people for the 3C's charity Promises auction.
-
Would love to visit... can anyone give directions on finding it please if travelling by car... thanks :)
-
Take the new road to meet the Dalaman road. Turn towards Dalaman & take the 1st right turning. Continue until you see the Kargi sign crossed out ie the end of Kargi. Turn right onto the country lane, keep going until the road forks & take the LH fork & that'll bring you directly to the museum - car park to the left
-
Thanks very much for the directions... will visit soon hopefully :)
-
Me too, this sounds really interesting :)
-
have heard about this museum many times we are based in Hisaronu is it possible to there by dolmus or even walking from Calis. Any ideas please would like to go there in May !
-
Went today, some pics are in the members photograph section.
You can get a dolmus from Fethiye to the main road in Kargi village, the museum is appx a 20 min walk from there. Not easy to find, it really is out in the middle of nowhere!
-
hi Supacabby can you tell me how to look at the photos have searched but cannot find that section is it for invited guests only?
-
Is the museum open in winter?

Rather than going all the way into Fethiye, if you get off just after the roundabout by the otogar & cross the road, you can catch the Kargi dolmus there. It's painted black on the front. Get off where the Kargi sign is crossed out ie the end of Kargi (there was a small workshop on the LHS) take the road to the right & where the road forks, take the LH fork
-
Thanks very much for your reply Liz iam looking to forward to going there when i come out in May !
-
