I was just wondering if we had any sufferers among us and if so what dietary measures have you taken and have they worked.

H, my late brother suffered with Celiac disease, the Celiac Society will send you a gluten free diet to follow and he found many restaurants home and abroad are up to date with the condition. He missed his chinese meals and fish and chips, although thai food tends to be wheat free and certain Indian dishes. All supermarkets stock gluten free products, although the bread never taste the same, my sister-in-law made gluten free bread (bread maker) and it was much better.

Hello Highlander. I'm a diagnosed Coeliac so I'd like to offer some advice.
First of all if your wife suspects that she may be suffering from this condition on no account should she start a gluten free diet before being properly diagnosed as this can distort her test results. Her doctor will arrange a blood test first and if that shows a possibility of Coeliac Disease she will need to have an endoscopic biopsy to confirm the condition. It's relatively painless. She also may be given an MRI to check for inflamation in the intestines. Only when she has a confirmed diagnosis should she take up a gluten free diet.
If she is Coeliac, she can join their society in the UK, they will send her a booklet with all the gluten free foods available, listed by popular supermarkets to make things even easier. I wish her all the best, life is not quite so easy for Coeliacs in Turkey but ways can be found to cope. Feel free to email me if you need any help.

H, Celiac and Crohns is very closely linked. I am one of the lucky ones in that I have Crohns but not Celiac so do not have to have a gluten free diet. I do however have to be extremely careful with diet and would echo LeeGlo's advice of not to alter Brenda's diet until she has under gone the appropriate tests and received a confirmed diagnosis. There are a number of conditions with similar symptoms, so best to wait for the experts advice,.......

I have been reading up on the disease ever since hearing an article on the radio and realising the Brenda has many of the symptoms. I had also heard about not going on the diet before diagnosis but thanks again.

As a slight aside, Brenda did phone for an appointment to see her GP. We realise that it's not an emergency but first avaiable appointment 06 June :o

If coming over on holiday,Carol at Bostans has a wheat intolerance and will cater for people who have certain food intolerances.I too am a sufferer but still enjoy my pizza and battered fish and chips-made with gluten free flour of course.Also found new gluten free products in Migros the other day and the Pork Shop opposite Tansaş has packet mixes for chocolate cake,buns,biscuits and bread.
