Was that an answer to the question or a prediction Tink.
I would have felt sure you would be supporting Man U.
-
whatever gave you that idea H? you live in a world of your own
-
:) Its like good and bad everywhere, and it goes without saying the rivalry between us (LIVERPOOL and MAN U) is a strong one, I actually met a Man U fan in Turkey for our 2005 final, who wanted us to win, and he was a fan, or at least he convinced me, but I have to be honest, and say that I am put off Man U by the arrogance of some of them, and I know it works both ways, but if more of them were like this man, i would be backing them tomorrow, but they are not, so neither am I.
-

2-1 Barca, can see some red and yellow cards being given too,
Kenny reckons 3-1 Man U. :o
-
2-1 Man U
-
It's going to be interesting to see how Rooney performs on the same pitch as Messi.
-
Should have put money on him getting a red. Rooney I mean!
-
This is embarrassing.
-
As I said :)
-
Best team won, no two ways about it, HIC. ;)
-
I facetimed my two sons in Thailand and both had 25 dollars on Barca at 18-1. Great minds :)
-
Just realised that Barca's starting 11 included 7 home grown players to Manu's 3 English players. OK Giggs speaks the same language but you could say that about Messi and Mascherano as well.
Food for thought?
-
I was hoping for a Man U win,but knew, after seeing Barcelona playing against Madrid, that they would almost certainly win.Och well.Back to Fir Park maybe to see 'Ye well.
-
Stoop, I think you are making a very valid point. No one can provide the answer as to why some countries can produce a team of such gifted players but we in the UK cannot. The reason that it is because we have too many foreign players does not hold water. Spain and Italy have many foreign players.I look at the Arsenal most of the young players on their books come from all over the world and they have just nicked 2 from Barca.
All of the top English clubs seem more interested in chasing around the world to pick up the best youngsters rather than develop their home grown talent.

it was a pleasure to watch one of the greatest teams in the modern era. having seen the great real madrid team of the 60s. ajax from the 70s and liverpool team of the 80s in my mind the only team can touch this barca team could be. might be the great brazil of the 1970 world cup and then that is a tough call. what a great advert for a truly wonderful team. congrats barca

I can tell you why we cant produce players witht he likes in Europe, nothing to do with the foreign influx our players can only learn from them but its too late then, the problem is at grass roots level we do not have acadamies like they do in Europe where the the youngsters are trained and coached alongside the first team members by the same coaches in the style associated with that club.
We try to make up our lack of technical ball skills with passion and its not enough, why a player earning £50,000 a week cant pass a ball to a player in the same strip 10 yards away without giving it away through short pass balls is beyond me.
-
Well Leeds are still producing them - we have just signed 3 or 4 from our academy for the coming season. I think Chelsea and Spurs have benefited in recent years from us as well.
Not sure what the answer is but Tinx is probably correct.
-
Yep Tinx is right the problem is at grass roots level, but academies attached to professional clubs are not the necessarily the right answer - it simply produces an elite that is always looking to drop players at various stages. There should be academies - and academy facilities - attached to all clubs right down to county league level, where the one philosophy is inclusive football, where skill, vision, understanding and determination are key, and that recognises that players develop at different rates.
The biggest problems we have at grass roots level is that our youngsters are playing 11 a side football too young (not enough time on the ball), on too big a pitches (looking to punt the ball up the pitch too much), we do not focus enough on ball skills enough in training (too many coaches move to quickly to playing football matches in training), kids should not be playing in leagues until they are at least 14 (don't worry about the losing this game, what have you learnt that you can use on the next), too much emphasis on strong big lads rather than a lad (or girl) who is comfortable on the ball and has vision - whatever their size. And most important of all is that the kids are enjoying playing competively as they do when they kick about with their mates - a lesson a lot of over competitive coaches (and indeed parents) could learn. ;)
