We have always loved to visit Mimosa bar throughout the day as heas good sunbeds and a lovely part of the beach up there..
we could not believe when there recently that he is charging for use of his toilets and @ 1ytl per visit we were gobsmacked by this:(
Not only that his efes was 5ytl and apart from the Sat @ 7ytl :o the rest of the bars were only charging 4ytl..
thus this makes a more expensive visit to the beach for the day, drinking efes throughout the day a few visits to the toilets is a must:D
Hence we visited once and a shame but never went back throughout our stay:(
-
I wouldn't be put off by Efes at 5 lira but I have never paid to use a bar toilet in Turkey (most of them should pay me) and I never will - so good for you letting us know - I certainly won't be paying them any 1 liras. When will people stop dreaming up ways to squeeze that extra 40p out of us, at the expense of our entire future spending. Charging to use the toilet, last week some hotel in Koca Calis charging families for using the pool (even though they were having drinks and meals every day). Whatever next? A charge of 1 lira each time your Efes glass needs washing? - it beggars belief.
-
i'd go a little futher up the beach to Guvans... Nice people free loos and sunbeds with the customary drink or two.
-
Don't like the idea of paying for the loo. Could be their downfall! Mimosa will need to rethink that one!
:D
-
Lets hope it does'nt set a trend in the rest of the bars.: :)
-
If I have to pay 1 lira I'd get my money's worth - I can be a poor shot ;)
-
You can't even spell properly Scunner!!!!!!
:D
-
No Tokes, I did mean shot :D
-
That is pretty unbelievable to read re the loos!I will second what is wrong with some of these people, it will be really intersting to see how he does this season with that rule in place ;)
-
A group of us are going their today and I shall tell Ouzy the comments he is getting by charging for the loo. We definately wont be paying.
-
We were going to stop at Mimoza for lunch the other day but their pides were expensive, so then we asked Seril if they could swap the ayran for cay in their doner meal deal, they refused, so had delicious pancakes and cay opposite Seril instead.
If places get greedy with their charges there's plenty of other places to choose. More people need to vote with their feet.
Thanks for the warning, and you tell em Barb
-
What is so difficult about changing Ayran for cay, for a start its cheaper?????????? They dont seem to have their thinking heads on
-
...and 99% of Brits hate Ayran!
-
I am the 1% then. I love it. All our committee was going to go to the Mimoza today. I will call and ask them if they want to go to Guvens instead. Bee??
-
I am not a fan of Mimosa but as anyone actually been charged for use of the toilets? I have read the opening thread and not sure if
they are saying they were charged or were told about the charge. Has anyone been charged before everyone boycotts the place?
-
Sounds like they were charged to me:
"Hence we visited once and a shame but never went back throughout our stay"
-
And does it matter if they were charged or if the owner said they charged - I don't see the difference really?
-
In Portimao on the Algarve they charge something like 20cents for the women's public loo and a little old lady stands outside and gives out ONE square sheet of toilet paper to each entrant.
In Turkey some of the toilets would have to pay me to enter :)
-
Not only in the Algarve Stoop - the same thing happened to us last summer in Saklikent.....lady outside rationing paper and a small entrance fee (can't remember how much). But then we did get a splash of cologne afterwards !!!
-
I think we are turning this slightly off topic to "Stories about foreign toilets". I do hope so :D
-
It's worth noting you do have to pay for virtually all public toilets in Turkey.
Charging paying customers at your bar and restaurant is very different.
Buzz Bar in Oludeniz charges non customers 1TL to use their toilets and has done for years - but customers do not have to pay anything.
I think this is just to discourage every tom dick and harry coming in off the beach and using their loos to wash themselves off, sand and all which is understandable and I don't think it is particularly enforced.
-
"I think this is just to discourage every tom dick and harry"
Nice turn of phrase under the circumstances, Nichola:D
-
At the beach party Mark I was asked to pay a TL.Bit of a cheek seeing as how we gave them 130 customers that night. I said something like no chance. I fully understand that they would charge non customers however because I used to chase them out of our place in the UK. There is a sign in the Penguin cafe toilet next to the new Migros saying for customers use only. Maybe they could do this at the Mimoza to make it plain. Not that anyone will take any notice of it. Too late today however because 10 of us went to Guvens instead and had a lovely day. We spent quite a few bob as well so they lost that at the Mimoza.
-
Would not use any bar that I had to pay to use the toilets. If they set a trend think you will see many places going bust this year. I for one would stay home in my villa. Can they not see they will just alienate customers.

Or we could all go and pee in the sea :D
-
Yes they certainly did take our money for the loo...
there was a lady sitting outside the toilets and one time i dashed over as she was away from her table, she soon returned as i came out of there with her little box for the 1ytl :o
-
Places we must visit when we're over
Mimosa
-
What are the conditions like in the toilets? Are they clean with working plumbing? Is there plenty of paper and handwashing soap etc? I do not mind paying for the use of a well kept cloakroom.
-
At one stage during the Beach Part the whole floor was flooded. One loo door wouldnt shut, paper towel dispenser only worked when it felt like it. They were fairly clean but you nearly broke your neck going down ricketey staircases from the garden to get to them!! I dot expect an establishment selling meals and drinks to be charging for toilet facilities.
We decided not to go there yesterday but rest assured I shall be calling in to see Ouzy and tell him of all the comments on the forum.
-
Not sure of the law in Turkey (who is??) but over here if you provide food and drink you must provide toilets for your customers. Surely they could just do what the likes of Genis do on Fethiye Prom and have a key which is handed out to customers when required.
It's off my list for future reference.

When we were in Bulgaria in 2002, beer was 40p a pint and using the toilet (in the same bar) was 50p. It is the only country I've been where letting it out was more expensive than putting it in.

Bloody hell Colwyn - don't give them ideas ;)
-
I can understand if it was to the people coming off the beach to use his facilities and not purchasing any food or drinks, there is a toliet in Fetiyhe I have used and paid a lira for the priviledge but it is a public toilet so fair do's, but most certainly would not expect to pay at an establishment I was handing over good money at. It is not about 1 lira it is about the principle here to me :)
-
A restaurant or bar serving food and drink must by European law provide free toilets for their customers, maybe not in Turkey though.
-
That is actually not correct. They must provide facilities for staff, but not necessarily for customers.
-
I think that there is a side of this that has not been discussed ..... be back in a minute, I have to spend a penny, possibly more ..... gotta go ...........
-
Basic Stoop Humanity Rules state that:
If you sell booze you should provide loos.
If you don't - then come do drink I won't!
-
I think the law is related to opening hours. If a restaurant or bar is open after 11.00pm they are obliged to have toilet facilities for the customers as well as the staff, but again that is probably not the law in Turkey.
-
But does it state they have to be free?

If you enjoy Turkish pancakes the wee pancake place on the corner of Seril gets our votes all the time
Local family ex Mimosa last year - (they disposed of him this year)
Cheap, pleasant, family run, sunshades, toilets free, warming and GENUINLY pleased to see you
Go and support real Turks !!!!!!
-
What's that got to do with the price of a pee?
:D
-
They serve wee pancakes. I believe this is one Turkish delicacy I haven't tried.
-
He IS Turkish at Mimoza?? It has moved from the other end of the prom.

Hi Stoop
We use the Genis at least once a week. It's only 5 from where we live, good wifi and comfortable seats + good view.
Never been offered a key, just go in.

we went to the mimosa bar last week and found the loo charge, my daughter went straight to the owner and complained that we had been drinking their beers at 5 TL and then to have to pay to use the loo, the staff all said "no problem, you don't have to pay it" so why is the woman stopping yopu from going in if you don't pay her?
-
Jack - sorry - I was thinking before they re-furbished. My wife thinks they are the best toilets in Turkey:D

Well this is it, the old "You don't have to pay" charade, where nobody has to pay as long as they go to use the facility, get challenged and asked for money, traipse off to find the manager, explain to him that you don't want to pay, he knows you don't want to pay and attempts to become your knight in shining armour and all round good guy by letting you off something you shouldn't be asked to pay in the first place.
It works because the vast majority are too embarrassed to challenge it, or can't be bothered to over 40p, or too desperate for the loo, or caught off guard.
I'd pay 10 lira for an Efes before I'd pay 1 lira for a pee and I will not be going anywhere near the place.
-
My sentiments entirely, back to the Surf Cafe for me.
-
Same here for us :)
-
I've never paid 40p for a pee in my life, so wouldn't pay it in Calis beach either. I'd go behind a hedge first!!!
-
One of our members has spoken to him and aparantly was joking when I was asked to pay on the Beach Party night. He also says that the charge is for people who are not using his facilities. Never the less we have discovered the Sands Beach Bar now so we will be sticking to it.
-
Can you tell me where the sands beach bar is please...
sounds like another one to discover..

The experience of joy2 and sunlover (and yourself indeed) clearly shows that it was no joke. They ask for and take the money unless you kick up a fuss. Some joke that.

A hedge Toky!! think you should change your user name to Topiary. ;) :)
-
I would answer "The jokes on you, cos I aint coming in here anymore"
-
LOL @ desMartinson.
:D
-
We went to the beach party at Uzzy's and never paid or was asked to pay to go to the loo. I must admit that we did not go to the Mimosa on any other occassion.
-
Sounds like they have seen the error of their ways. Far too late as usual of course. They'll be moaning no doubt about how bad this season is, missing the point entirely...
-
At least next year they will not be charging for the loo as they will have learnt there lesson hopefully:D
-
They are still charging for the toilets. Lady sitting outside the toilets yesterday with a box for the money and a sign saying 1 lira. It doesnt matter if you are drinking in the bar or not, everyone is getting charged.
-
I have a feeling you didn't cough up Doug :D
-
You know me too well ;)
-
My wife nipped into the toilet when it was unattended the price of the visit was added to the bill.
-
Had that been my bill, I would have saved plenty. 1 lira added, no tip given. No problem. I can't (or maybe I can) believe how short sighted places there can be.
-
Missed this thread so arriving late! What a palava but sadly not entirely unexpected and typical Uzi(sic)! I can like a great many of you understand the concept of charging particularly for loos near a beach if people arent customers or who arent eating or drinking but for people who are its a total rip off and I just hope people vote with their feet. Must admit we havent used the mimosa since it was whatever it was- Kum city? then it was so loud my ears bled!Since we used to dodge Uzi when he was the other end of the prom we werent likely to venture up there where there was no escape. They really are hopeless , they just dont realise what the impact is of their shortsightedness!
-
Shame really as it's a great location and he's put a lot of effort into the place including a load of new activities for the kids. Unfortunatly what he makes in charging a lira to use the toilet, will be nothing to what he will loose in people walking away.
-
Or not going in the first place.
-
Uzi says he may start charging for the sunbeds and shade !!!
Told him he would be cutting his own throat if he does.
-
He'll have no business by the end of the season if he does.
-
Any person walking in off the beach, just to use the toilet, may well return with 10 people for lunch and drinks.
Charge him for the toilet and you wont see him or his family ever again.
The owner of this bar is a short sighted, penny pinching fool!!!
