On Monday 11th July at 17.00 hrs there will be an opening ceremony at the Cultural Centre in Fethiye of a special photographic exhibition.
Dr Alan M Greaves of Liverpool university, together with Photo Kandiye Sukru Gurel & FETAV are displaying historical photographs of Turkey taken by the prominent archaeologist John Garstang, during 1907 - 1908 As well as photographs of Fethiye during the same period.

I have met and talked with Alan Greaves on a few occasions - if the exhibition is as interesting as he is, then it will be well worth the visit

Thanks Sue T for this information.
Is it a ticket affair and if so where can they be bought? Could you indicate where the Cultural Centre is in Fethiye
Cheers--I'm in Calis at this time and would like to see this----Brian

The black and white 100 year old photos have been brilliantly reproduced from the original glass negatives. They include studies of indigenous peoples in the east of Turkey and pictures of excavations and Hittite artefacts uncovered by the Garstang archeological expedition. In a pleasantly air conditioned room the pictures can be viewed in comfort, you have till the end of Friday to see them!

Does anyone know if there are printed copies available to purchase, especially from the Fethiye exhibition?
-
I asked Dr Greaves and he said the Garstang Photographs would be eventually in book form. They can also be viewed in Liverpool. I took some photos and will try to post them here. Internet connection has been problematic over last two weeks.
Well worth visiting this exhibition these digitised images are extremely sharp. The few of Fethiye cc1948 not so.
