Title: Pet hates of holidaymakers
Post by: Highlander on July 16, 2011, 16:49:43 PM
These are reported to be the top 20 pet hates of British holiaymakers. I've added some suggested "remedies".

1.   Not having your own bed - stay out all night.
2.   The feeling of forever travelling - knit.
3.   Not being able to drink tap water - have a G&T.
4.   Competing for sun loungers - get up earlier.
5.   Lack of a decent cup of tea - drink coffee.
6.   No internet - get a life.
7.   Not always having a car - thumb.
8.   Bumping into other Britons - book your holiday in Bradford.
9.   No decent shower or bath - buy a decent deodorant.
10.   "Strange" milk - try Ayran.
11.   Not having your own kitchen - eat out.
12.   Missing pets - take you partner for a walk. (Mrs. H likes to keep me on a tight leash).
13.   Wasting money on unnecessary items - don't.
14.   Cost of phoning home - don't.
15.   Missing your family - remember your British, stiff upper lip and all that.
16.   "Weird" food - diet.
17.   Weather is too hot - take your holiday in Scotland.
18.   Not understanding a foreign language -learn one.
19.   Struggling with a foreign currency - learn to count.
20.   Not having your daily routine - celebrate.

My pet hate is the magnetism of the luggage belt. Everyone ( including children and babies in pushchairs are drawn to the area making it impossible to get your luggage off the damn thing.

My only hate is the fact that it doesn't matter where you go, or how long you go for, or how long your flight is, and what time of day you take off/arrive back, any recharging of batteries is totally eradicated by the journey home.

I love coming home here too but it always seems to be a journey that starts at 11pm with the airport transfer, then sitting around at Dalaman for a couple of hours, then a 2am 4.5 hour flight then the drive home from the airport - getting here at around 6am - relaxed at home I am indeed, but bloody knackered having lost a night's sleep, something that takes days to shake off completely...

Know the feeling:(.

Landing at 4:00am leaves us in no mans land. Driving home (4 hours)after being up for 19 hours is not an option and it really isn't worth a hotel room for a few hours. Only other option is the train but even that means a long wait.

Just back from a few days in Jersey to see our son and daughter-in-law.  What a treat an hour and a bit to the airport.  An hour and ten minutes flight and five minute transfer to their house.  Return journey just as smooth.
Travelling is a dawdle !!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my big bro's and his wife came out here for the 1st time recently.  Cost them a small fortune just to fly from Stornoway to Glasgow and stay overnight in a hotel before flying to Dalaman, same thing on the way back.
We would have a 2 week holiday for what they paid to get to Glasgow when we lived in London:0 Shocking!!
Outrageous prices...but they will be back as they just loved Turkey!

Janmac..your poor brother, it is expensive enough to fly from Scotland without the added extras of flying from the islands.
Is there anywhere else he can fly to that might make it cheaper ?

Not really Heather.  When we were in the UK we would always drive and get the ferry to go home, flying to the island was not an option as it was  so expensive.  Guess it's just what folk have to accept to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world:(

We were thinking of having a long weekend in Orkney, after checking the prices to take a 50 minute flight cannot believe it!!
So my pet hate is the terrbile costs of flying anywhere in or out of Scotland. :o:-\
