Title: Tourism agency
Post by: Fifi on July 20, 2011, 08:07:34 AM
Hi all - well here we are and looking to book the jeep safari and another boat trip. Could anyone suggest the best tour agency to book with in Calis? We would usually hire our own boat but as there are only 4 of us this time it is not really cost effective. We would prefer a small number on the boat (maybe 10-15?)and the jeep safari to call at Patara beach but at the end where there is a bar and a lagoon? We of course are stopped by all the reps on the front but it is difficult to decide which one to choose. Many thanks for any advice.

You would want to use the boats at the bridge if you want small numbers, or the Lady Christina boat in Fethiye.

This really is a case of you pays your money & makes your choice. You could use an agency like Carole & Tayfun who do all you need & more or try & single out someone smaller like Gerrys boat. Are you looking to do a daytime cruise or an evening susnset one?

Can't help with the jeep safari as haven't done that, yet!

Lady Christina is superb, however as you mention in your message, wouldn't be cost effective for four of you - unless you really want to push the boat out...... ;) :)

Calis Boats have a maximum of 12 on board and the food is excellent.

I have a feeling that since that accident the "regulations" regarding Jeep Safaris may have changed.
I do know that at the beginning of one season all the Jeeps had to present themselves for inspections and many were deemed to be unsuitable.
I have also noticed that the number of small jeeps seems to have dwindled whlle the number of big jeeps seems to have mushroomed.

I have done safaris in the small jeeps and would never do another one, but I have also done safaris with Karacay (the big green jeeps) and would not hesitate to go again. Safety was taken seriously by the drivers, the jeeps all had lap belts and substantial roll bars properly fitted. The companies with small jeeps even let the guests drive if they wanted to - Karacay did not allow this.

Does any one know if there is now some sort of official regulation and how do you spot some one who passed the standards (like a Tursab sort of thing)

Just reporing back - we took the jeep safari with Karachay (sp) and Gerry's boat trip. The safari was an excellent day out as usual although we were duped into visiting the carpet factory (again)we managed to sidestep the tour and just went straight to the seating/bar area. Gerry's was an interesting day to say the least - we had a party of 5 Lebanese on board who brought their own music, snacks and vodka on board (we thought it was water) and didn't realise they were actually drunk by about 10am! Unfortunately a great deal of arguing ensued and one of the ladies left by speedboat, another refused to go and started abusing my son and daughter quite badly (horrible, vile woman she was)Gerry made it clear that he would not tolerate any further abusive behaviour and after she had played the 'you just don't like arabs' card luckily she managed to fall asleep for a couple of hours. It was a bad start to the day and Gerry was clearly upset by it but things settled down - we largely ignored the other party and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the day. I suspect that Gerry will be checking carefully the bookings he takes through a 3rd party though.

I guess this is 1 time when a larger boat would have been a better option, sometimes small & friendly isn't always best I guess!

Last year Jerry's boat was £140/£160 private up to 14 people.

8 of us went £20 each. What can you spend £20 on these days? (thats a question im sure will be answered Ha)

Pick up drop off and fed. For an all day boat trip its very reasonible and you dont need to worry about others joining you.
