The Turkish and Kurdish community in the Kingsland Road area of Dalston armed themselves with baseball bats and broken snooker cues to fight off the rioters in London.
They received thanks from the police and people are saying that they will support the local businesses with their custom. One of the local shop owners said that they regard the area as their own village and were defending it as is their tradition. Good luck to them I say.

And good on them I say

Funny isn't it how the Turkish and Kurdish communities stand side-by-side to protect their properties and businesses in the UK but fight like cat and dog with each other in Turkey ?

We live just outside London & our local Turkish restaurant owner was talking about Dalston last night. He too thought it was wonderful but apparently saw them all arguing & squaring up to each other last night as he drove through :)

Much in the same way we Brits socialise with British people in Turkey that we wouldn't go near if we were both in the UK? ;)

The London Turks adopted the same attitude as their forefathers at Gallipoli, where they too defended with their the hearts, because their homeland was threatened . Churchill boasted that the turks would give in and run...they didnt.. the result was a major catastrophe for the allies.
