How a 15 year old girl will ever make sense of life after this is beyond me entirely. Irish Times reports that the victim's families have arrived back to Belfast Airport:

So sad 2 people have lost their life, but what the hell was the mother doing coluding with the daughter's relationship??? :o She was only 15 and seemingly had met him the previous year, making her 14!
-
I read 2 years - 13!!
-
I think you're right. Makes it even worse then eh?
:o :o
-
Perhaps, as a parent, she may have thought that it was a crush and would fizzle out as these things do. She obviously was trying to do the right thing in the end, to her cost.
Very sad story.
-
I have seen a picture of the man/boy who committed these crimes and he certainly looked much older than 17yrs. :o C
-
Yes, the penalties if he is older than 17 are potentially far more severe. As for thinking it was a crush that would fizzle out, all living/staying in the same apartment (as reported) wouldn't have helped in the hope for an early split.
-
It does seem that there is a bit of confusion with regard as to whether he is sentenced as a juvenile or an adult, as there is some difficulty in ascertaining his "TRUE" age. A case of claiming to be younger, in order to escape the full weight of the law, perhaps??
-
Has anyone else seen his photograph if so what would be your opinion of his 'age' ;) C

Murder accused claims self defence: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/turkey-murder-accused-claims-he-killed-friends-lsquoin-selfdefencersquo-2856122.html

Looking at the photo in that article, if that guy is 17, I'm only 40, AND 1st in line for the throne of Bonny Scotland !! He is around 25, in my opinion.
-
I agree Gordon he certainly looks some years older than 17. Another sad example of people leaving their brains at home when they come to Turkey. Would the parents have allowed this sort of affair with their young daughter to be going on back in Ireland, I don't think so .. so why do they think it is OK in Turkey.
-
Agree he's got to be between 25-27 at least. Acted in self defence? only one cut to his hand (as he missed prob?) but the victims have 15 stabs wounds each - think not somehow.
-
The second lady had more that stab wounds it was a large throat wound that killed her and you can imagine what exactly that was.
-
I imagine he cut his own hand, in an effort to create the evidence that he was attacked and managed to block/grab the knife (not).
-
According to the news that is what he did Scunner. He apparently sent the girlfriend out on a boat trip, then took the ladies out for a drive to Izmir, in a forest area he attacked them. He then returned home, lay in the soil and then cut his hand. He then concocted a story that the women were kidnapped and he got his wounds trying to fight off the kidnappers.
-
Would agree, definitely mid 20s. Watching my boys grow up they didn't start to 'bulk out' until 20/21 unless they did a lot of sports and he certainly isn't muscular, that's flab
-
Yep. Defo in his 20's.
As this was a pre-meditated crime, the authorities should throw the book at him.

I read a comment on another forum that many children born in S.E. Turkey are not registered immediately, only when convenient. Thus the declared age may be partly guesswork. To me, that seems a plausible point.
-
Yes Colwyn, that is true. A birth sometimes cannot/is not registered straight away especially for those people that live far from the main registration office. So sometimes the registration is later and maybe a even up to year out. But if this guy is stating he is 17 they will be able to find documented evidence to prove his registered age. It may not be his exact age but won't be more than a couple of years out. I know of a few people that have a registered year of birth as say 1978, but were in fact born in 1977.
-
Yes, it would make the first convenient time seven years after the birth if he is 25 [:o]
-
that amount isn't possible even with Turkish paperwork :D
-
Yes it's possible that his birth wasn't registered straight away and he could be a couple of years older.....and Turks don't always age well - but if he's 17 ............. I'm 30!
