Post by: tonysue on September 06, 2011, 21:16:29 PM
Are photographs necessary to get a tax number and open a bank account or will your passport do? it's a few years since we did ours and I cant remember, getting old lol. :-\

It was just a passport when I did my tax no, though I was required to provide a photocopy of the personal details page. No photos needed at bank either, but some need a recent UK utlities bill if you don't have Turkish residency

Hi, I agree with what Liz has said.

I was lucky because my Power of Attorney collated all the paperwork and presented it on my behalf. There was one dodgy moment when he disappeared with my Passport but quickly returned it when he'd had the chance to photocopy the details.
Yes, my passport photo did look better in black and white.

So if you have to present UK utilities then the UK gov't would know you have money in Turkey?

I suspect that it's merely as with UK banks, they have to have 2 x proofs of identity, one of which includes your address to supposedly prevent money laundering

A friend of mine has just opened an account with Finansbank, they were quite happy with her passport and driving licence.
