A very kind person emailed me a list of establishments on the Prom (both left and right) of the Viewing Point and also of the Main Street and the Side Street down to Scarlett.

Supacabby is going to complete his excellent work so that we can cross reference things but in the meantime I'll post the lists as they stand.

PLEASE if you spot an error and/or have suggestionss as how to improve the lists please let us know.

First list in next post and I'd be grateful if you wait until all four lists have been posted before you comment.

Are either of these maps of additional benefit to the Calis Prom Right List and would it be worth while to do maps for the other lists. If so, I'll tart them up after I've corrected them ;)

Are the maps useful or are the lists sufficient.

I'll refine the maps but only if people think it's worthwhile.

Amazing - what a huge help to everyone. As I work with tourists I am often asked where  places that have been recommended to them are and I often do not know the answer (I am still finding my way around all the restaurants in Calis!). I can now print this off and use it. What a fab idea of yours and what a HUGE help. Thank you SOOOOOO much.

Sorry H just had another look at Google earth - if you click on the "VIEW ON GOOGLE MAPS" icon at the top (next tothe Email and print icons) this then gives an option of supplying a link with the "CHAIN" icon - see if that works for you.

Think I'll have to give up on the Googles Maps. From what I can gather the only way to do it is to join the Google Community.

If anybody knows otherwise, please let me know.

I think it maybe possible to email the map so if anyone wants to try that, again please let me know.

Google maps is easy - just time consuming - IMO google earth is OK for personal use.

I agree Jim - adding icons in Google Earth is easy and I have done that.

It's being able to let others see the icons I have added that's the problem.

I am not sure what all these different maps are trying to show "new" people to Calis.I can understand resident of Calis would understand them but as they know where all these places are they dont need them.
I think new holiday makers would be very confused as nothing is explained.Sorry to sound critical but having 4 or 5 different views of different angles from the "viewing point" to different places in Calis would just confuse new comers to Calis.

I had already seen the link Highlander and do appreciate the long hours and hard work that you have put into it. Very well done.
But my questions are still the same as to my previous post.
If you were going to Calis for the first time you would be confused by your map.I cannot see anywhere where it explains to a new comer, where exactly is the "viewing point". Yes I know you know but new visitors would not.So straight away you have lost them ! You have to establish exactly where you are as to the start of any tourist map or you are lost before you have starterd.New comers need a starting reference. No reference to bridge or water taxi which most people can associate with as far as I can see on your map/s.Ok I realise it is just about restaurants and pubs so other information is not considered needed. But as I have already said you have done a lot of hard work to get to the stage you are at with these maps so well done.

Thanks for replying doubletwo and for your kind words.

"New comers need a starting reference. No reference to bridge or water taxi which most people can associate with as far as I can see on your map/s

I agree that new comers to Calis would not know the viewing point, but please explain how they would know the bridge or water taxi

I deliberatley chose The Viewing Point is the "point of reference" for the three maps for the simple reason that the bars/restaurants along the front and up the main street "radiate" from that point.

I had assumed that new visitors would ask where the restaurants and bars were and would be directed to the prom. They would very soon come to the Viewing Point and would know where various establishments were located fronm that point.

I not sure I have seen a tourist map of London which explains to a new comer exactly where Piccadilly Circus is.

If the only criticism of the booklet is that there is no point of reference I think we might consider it useful.

H -  its a dificult thing to give anybody a starting point to find their way around any place, the use of things like bridges can be very confusing - unless there was only one within a couple of miles and items such as the boat taxi works OK in the summer - but its an empty waterway out of season, many people still refer to the Dolphin roundabout when giving directions - now try explaining that to a newcomer, so the Viewpoint is a very sensible reference point, its there all year round, its name is pretty well displayed and it is located where many of the visitors especially those not actually staying in Calis have their first sight of the sea. So well done on the guide, it will be very helpfull to loads of people.

As I have said I appreciate all the time and work you have put into these maps and I am sure lots will find them helpful. Its a shame that we are censored on this forum as to what we can say or not say. Very childish.Keep up the good work.
I am hiring a car when I come out in Sept. Any chance of a road map Highlander. A 30 mile radius of Calis will do.  :) Thank you. :)

I see you have conveniently gone offline now doubletwo. You are entitled to your view on John's comprehensive and FREE guide to Calis, even though I'd have probably said nothing - that's up to you. You are not censored for your opinion of it.

Your next post here will either be as requested - 1. Evidence to back up your claim "that we are censored on this forum as to what we can say or not say", or 2. A retraction of your accusation and an apology. Any other "next post" will be your last. Big claims, no facts - I think we've had your sort before.

I would like to apologise as to saying this forum is censored by Scunner. Its true I do not have any evidence that what I said is true.

Many, many people making claims and accusations based on nothing, other than a desire to come here and criticise the work of those of us who give our time to trying to help people, often complete strangers that we will never meet. You can't back up your claim and even so try to imply you are one of many who make the same claim. You are indeed one of quite a few people who come here to be negative wherever the opportunity allows, and to put down, and to mock the efforts of others who have things to offer that you don't - and because of that, you add nothing to the community at all. So best you don't suffer this censored place full of information that is useless to everyone. We were not good enough for you and that will keep me awake for minutes. Bye.
