...And once again, travel insurance nearly always DOES NOT cover such accidents - avoid quad bikes and please tell people to do the same!!! Bodrum this time. This lad is TEN YEARS OLD

Firstly, I feel desparately sorry for the wee lad and hope he makes a full recovery. But
Clearly a lesson for everyone who doesn't know, or want to know, that such activities are not covered by standard insurance policies and hindsight is a great thing, but do I take it from the report that the boy was driving :o
-
It does read so. Another thing that becomes apparent in the article is they got left behind the "instructor".
Or, to put it correctly, an "instructor" had a 10 year old child driving behind him and didn't even keep him in sight!!!
-
Indeed :(
-
A ten year old in charge of a quad bike? It beggers belief!
Hope he mends quickly :)
-
I've seen it many times with what looked like 16 year olds stoop, far less a tenyear old.
It's going to sound terribly naive but don't you need to produce a driving licence when you book.
-
In a previous life I had quite a number of customers who wanted to hire a moped/motorbike/quad bike while in Calis but never thought to bring their driving licence as they weren't planning to hire a car. A full and current driving licence is required to hire any of these vehicles. I never once had a problem getting them what they wanted.

Where were his bloody parents!
I've just read the article and have to say the Parents/step parent are obviously morons to of let the lad drive in the first place.
-
Erm
One was on it with him!
-
So sad, forget holiday insurance, any adult that does not hold a full UK motor bike license can not ride a squad/ scooter/ motor/ bike, on a full UK driving license over 49cc, its all ok until the S++t hits the fan, lets hope and pray he makes a full and quick recovery.
-
I understand and wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments BM06, but surely one of the major points arising from this tradegy is not to forget holiday insurance notwithstanding the age of the participant.
-
H, I did not mean forget holiday insurance as in forget holiday insurance, I mean holiday insurance or any insurance will not cover anyone hiring/buying something you do not have a license to ride/drive etc.
-
I doubt there are many travel insurers who include cover for hospital fees for 10 year olds who crash mountain bikes.
-
Both points taken.
-
I hope his parents are suitably ashamed of themselves. Poor wee man.
-
Feel really sorry for the lad but the responsibility does land mainly on the parents. And the instructor for allowing the lad to drive it.
They're are big, heavy machines and there's no way a lad of 10 could handle it.
