It has taken me two years of "doing a bit when I can" and finally I have got to a stage where I can open my new website. I have always thought that there is no visitor information website for Fethiye - lots of websites that are old collections of links, and the news sites which do their job well, but not somewhere for first time visitors to read up a bit on what excursions there might be, a few restaurant ideas, or what there is to go out and explore before they arrive in Turkey.
So, now there is :)
Please be kind ;) If you see any glaring errors or mistakes, I'd be grateful for a private message rather than a public humiliation :D

I think this is wonderful. I love to read about different places to go and see on the forum and then promptly forget about them. Everything I want to know in one easy place. I think we will enjoy that website....
Thank you - now added to my bookmarks!

Looks interesting Keith, which of course, is the idea behind it !! Congratulations, hope it is as much of a success as this Forum is. :D
-
So it was you:D
Very impressive - congratulations.
-
Looks great and I hope it is a great success - is there anything we can do to promote it - send to a friend - like on Facebook etc?
Also in the future is there any chance of putting a gentle reminder to dress with respect for the local culture when visiting sights that are heavily populated by locals (I am sure you could word it better - but it then does our hosts another service and should win plaudits from local officials???)

All the pages have share icons Ian, Facebook - Google +1 and the like. I also mention dressing with respect in the article about Do's & Don'ts. Any pages shared on Facebook help, thanks. It is not a completed website, it never will be. I hope to add more restaurants, places to visit, news articles from around the World and locally all the time. It is not Fethiye Times, nor will it ever be - it is a resource for visitors and hopefully a hub for news and what's on from all available sources :)

Brilliant!!!!! Love the do's and don'ts. Right to the point. Are web sites you're full time job Scunner?
:D

No, I'm a retired estate agent ;)

I must give great thanks to those I turned to for help :)
To JohnF - everyone with an interest and clear ideas of how it should work needs someone to turn to who knows how to make it work - and to tell me when something in my mind simply can't be done - thanks John!
To Colwyn - answered my call to assist with the "Brief History of Fethiye" section, which I wrote completely on my own. Then sent it to Colwyn to check. Then received quite a different document back!!! It was great fun working on it together, my long standing hero raconteur :)
To KKOB for permission to include his superb Lycian Way article and photos.
To Jacx for kind permission to plunder her amazing photo collection.
To Julie (jules1), the World's most accurate and tactless proof reader
To SteveB, but he'll need to work out why.
Sorry about that folks, these speeches can be boring :-\

If there was a LIKE icon to click on that post, I would click it:D

Great reading and very informative. I also like the do's and don'ts
Will pass this on and wish you every success with this website :) C

I think this is really helpful. I shall use it to improve my reputation as an unpaid tour guide when the family are next here. 8) :)

Looks great to me!

Thank you all for such pleasant comments :)
As I mentioned, it is just the start, I will add many more places to visit (and head further afield), and more news and places to eat. Anyone wanting to add a contribution would be welcome to submit an article - please just remember it is an information site rather than a review site so hard facts more than opinions are sought.
Also any events can be included, that is what I am filling now - it can be a 3 week tour of Turkey or the day or times of a bar's happy hour - if it might be of interest to people coming over to Fethiye I'll add it. The primary aim I had was for people to do what very few of us did when we first visited Fethiye - turn up armed with a few ideas of what we'd like to see or do when we got there. We had no idea about Tlos, the Water taxi, any restaurants at all before we 'discovered' them ourselves once we had arrived. If a family get on the plane looking forward to going to Xanthos and that karaoke night on a Thursday in Hisaronu, I achieved my aim :D

Brilliant site Keith. Well done and I am sure many people will find it very useful and informative.Might be nice to suggest to new visitors to learn just two important words in Turkish Very easy ones which make life so much nicer . Please and Thank you with simplified instructions.Where DO you find the time to do all this extra work !!!
-
I'd rather spend the effort doing a website teaching British people how to use "please" and "thank you" in English!
It's something I hope to do Mavis, along with a translated restaurant menu/food translations. It would be easy to nick from somewhere but I think I had better do my own. ;) As for where do I find the time, everyone knows I never sleep :)

Really good start there Keith, I think you have spotted a bit of a gap in the market and I'm sure you will do very well with the site.
-
Congratulations on the new web site. Having worked in the tourist industry for 11 years, I compiled lots of information on the places where I worked and visited in order to enhance my guests' enjoyment of their holiday. I still tend to do write-ups on places and activities of interest. Good work. :)

Impressed! No one can say to you "get a life".....you obviously have one :)
-
You done it again Keith. I can't see this new site being anything other than, a runaway success.
-
looks great - Calis Beach (as an area) owe you alot Keith. You've drawn many people to the area with CBF which has been so successful. Now you're set to build on that - you are quite simply Mr Calis and really are fab x:D

I'm very pleased to hear these recent positive comments :)
I am currently doing other things but my plan is to keep it live and vibrant heading up to and through the season, with more news stories that promote the area, more places to visit & restaurants to try, and the like.

Hi. Site looks fab. I am absolutely over the moon that you have done this. As a family we gave been coming to Calis for the last three years and now have a place. Tend to usually come in August and do the obligatory visit to Fetiye Market but because it is so hot never venture around - this will now make it so much easier. Well done and thank you. :D
