I can't be doing with them and need an original excuse for our company "do" tomorrow.
Has anyone got any believable excuses that will stop me appearing like a miserable sod?
I have neither the time nor the inclination to find an outfit now so really need a good line......
If you love them...please, please tell me why you do as maybe I am missing something. I'm not a misery, just don't like "enforced" fun :-\
-
you shouldn't be forced to dress up, but looking different or acting in a totally " un you" way can be a laugh...:D
-
I'm with you Bluwise, am not bothered with it at all however always have fun watching others in their choice of attire, can't wait to see John @ the kids Xmas party this weekend lol.
-
well I agree with both of you Supacabby and Johnboy - I'm going to have a laugh regardless I'm sure. It's just how to wriggle out of it with the "corporate bods" who will mumble daft things about setting a poor example to my team by not joining in blah, blah, blah. The same bods who expect a 58 year old chubs to go swinging through trees on ropes as part of "team building" : :)
Did they consider the ropes probably wouldn't hold and if I landed on one of them we would be demolishing not building :o
A sound response to "why haven't you dressed up?" is needed......

This is how an old mate coped with the feared, expensive and time consuming fancy dress parties. He would make a paper plane like the ones we all remember chucking across the classroom at school. He'd turn up in normal clothes clutching his paper plane and when asked what he had come as, he happily told the curious that it was quite obvious to anybody that he was dressed as an aircraft carrier.....
No cost, no fuss and job done !

Hate it too, tell them the fancy dress hire shop burned down or that you are an individual and you lead by example and not by being told what to wear. Have a very large drink first:D
-
Scorcher that's brilliant and I will definitely remember that one for future!
I should have said that the theme is "rock" as in rock stars / chicks etc or whatever era rocks your boat. If I could find a link to your paper plane or something on those lines , believe me I would use it - :D
-
love it scorcher :)
-
Busybee - we're thinking along the same lines ;)

Unless its one of ours Bee. lol.xx

Aw, I love dressing up. Don't even care if I'm the only one in costume!!!
:D

I think dressing up legitimately allows you to act the fool. But I understand how you feel, it takes a lot of effort. Theme parties that don't take a lot of imagination and work and are easily accomplished by all, are those such as "Red or Dead" where everyone attending has to wear something red. I remember many years ago at a Christmas party, one of our Corporate lawyers turned up and it was obvious he wasn't wearing anything red. When I asked him why he wasn't joining in, he said he was. I said red underpants didn't count as it had to be on show, to which he replied that it was and produced from under his arm an edition of the Times newspaper! (Read - get it!). Yes I groaned as well LOL.

Take a couple of boiled eggs (so they dont break) and tell them you came as the un-fertilised one!!!
-
OMG poor you! Hate them with a passion! Would be thinking of an excuse not to go never mind why Im not in fancy dress! Dont want a legitimate reason to act daft- dont even want an illegitamate one. Happy to go as myself! Last time I had to dress up ( for a work thing ) i had the worse time and left early! Think I may be phobic!

Been to many fancy dress parties and doing another one in hisaronu at new year. i love them but if you dont want to dress up you shouldnt.
-
Well, that was one uncomfortable evening....probably only 2 or 3 people out of 150 NOT dressed up so I felt a right plonker...next time, I just won't go if I don't want to act daft with the rest. Good on 'em for the effort and clearly it did encourage fun but I suspect those guys would have had a ball regardless of fancy dress.
What made it worse for me, nobody even asked me why I wasn't in fancy dress........felt so conspicuous was gone to bed by 10:30 free bar or not!! :-\ :-\
