Title: Hogmanay
Post by: Toky on December 29, 2011, 21:59:50 PM
Just curious to see what everyone is doing to bring in the New Year. I'm simply running a Hogmanay bash at the bowling club. After many years, I'm retiring from my post as Social Convenor at the club in mid Feb, so this is my penultimate fuction, the last being Burns Night, so I am going to make sure it goes with a bang. I'll finally get my life back!
:D

I'm gathering up my energy to go out with my daughter and some friends to a party at a local pub. It will be the first time in over 2 years that I've been out socially.

Oh Ceni, that's a shocker not being out socially for 2 years. You've got a lot to catch up on. Enjoy every moment of it. If you're knackered the following morning, it'll have been well worth it.

We have granny booked, kids bribed, and a table at my most favouritest restaurant booked. Company will be provided in the shape of a couple of ex-Koycegizers one of which was once quite well known on here  ;)

I am going to a bar with 20 cigarettes and 2 children.
Or maybe I will be really annoying and take 2 cigarettes and 20 children.

This is meant to be ever so mildly amusing ...... just in case, some think I am being serious and start a debate.

I'd take the 20 cigarettes to the bar and leave the children at home amca!  Now that would start a debate if anybody really cared!

Miss the Hogmanays of old when me and a few friends, along with most of Edinburgh, would go up to the Tron Clock to bring in the New Year.Lots of happy drunken revelry.Once the bells had rung to bring in the New Year we would disperse to go first footing then stagger home in the wee small hours for some sleep before going out again on New Years Day for more! Now Edinburgh has gone all up market and you need to buy tickets to get into the town centre and the pubs charge for you to get inside! Not all progress is good! This year its a 1950's Hollywood extravaganza at Bostans for me.Can I take this chance to wish everyone on the forum a very good New Year and all the very best for 2012,may all your wishes come true.

Ah, first footing Grizabella,,,,,,not sure anyone does that anymore. People now seem to go to organised events or like Scunner, out for a meal. Daughter #2 has here ticket for the Edinburgh Hogmanay extravaganza, lets hope the weather holds out for these big events. If I had the choice, I'd like to be spending Hogmanay in Bostans too LOL.
A' the best to you and yours

Even though I live in Scotland my favourite New Year had to be the one in Amsterdam.  Never seen such an amazing firework display all over the city, that lasted for one hour, fabulous.

Sadly, the kilt is about a stone and a half too small now badge.

Kindest regards too you and Irene - hope you got her a new top for her Christmas.
