Title: Liqueurs
Post by: heather07 on December 30, 2011, 21:19:46 PM
Following on from the wine threads.

What is your favourite Liqueur to have after dinner?

I enjoy a Tia Maria on the side with my coffee, whereas hubby likes a Gaelic coffee

I love Tia Maria over ice but there was also a creme de drambuie liqueur a while ago, not sure if it is still made but it was lovely.  Quite like a Sambucca too.  In fact, anything except that toothpaste one will do!

So far:

1. Gaelic coffee (Irish coffee where I'm from  ;)
2. Sambucca
3. Glayva

My choice: Any of those three  :)

No, I don't set it alight - too much gel spray on my hair and too eager to drink it!
Toothpaste - I think it's Creme de menthe - green and tastes like Colgate :D

Anyone like Galliano?
It's the fab bit in a Harvey Wallbanger (delicious and refreshing) but also lovely on it's own as an after dinner liqueur.

My absolute favourite (although I've never seen it in any restaurant yet) is Stag's Breath - if you like Glayva you may well fall in love with this Jacqui - it's a liqueur made from Speyside whisky and fermented honey. It is very moreish, you have been warned :D

Occasionally will have a Heather Cream.
There is a lovely coffee liqueur from Portugal but name escapes me.
Hubby had a Tequila coffee in Mexico and the guy came out pt on a surgical mask and announced "Operation Coffee"  He heated glass, dipped it in sugar, heated Tequila and so on .  hubby swears it was the best liqueur he has ever had.

My favourite is Sambucca, lit, 3 coffee beans, blown out and sipped, not knocked back like a "shot" the way the young ones drink it.
I also love Galiano....especially in a coffe with cream. Mmmmmmmmm.
Hubby loves Glayva and when we go skiing, he has that in his hip flask, whilst mine has Sambucca!!
:D

Sambuca what a waste burning alcohol off, and should be licorice beans not coffee youngsters dont know everything, warm your licorice beans first.and to all those who are going to say licorice doesn't have beans i know its the root ,dried and chopped  up they call it a bean in Italian shops where i used to buy from .[:o)]

And that may be your preference Lance. As stated in my previous post MY preference is 3 COFFEE beans. Lit only enough to release some coffee flavour, not for ages burning off the alcohol.

Quote from Infobarrel:
"Sambuca is steeped in Italian tradition and can be found served on ice, or mixed with cola or water. But the most enjoyable serving of Sambuca comes the old fashioned way, warm with three coffee beans afloat in the glass. According to Italians, each bean has a meaning: health, happiness, and prosperity. While setting the liqueur ablaze imparts some of the coffee flavor to the drink, it softens the taste."

Each to their own
 :)

Scunner have tried Stags Breath, but still prefer Glayva.
Toky, took my breath away, what a glamourous new picture. I used to think you looked like Zoe Wannamaker in the old picture, the new one looks like Miss Scotland... What's the secret???

Co-incidently was given a bottle of that at Christmas.
