Some members will remember me posting photos of our weekend in Prague for Mrs Scunner's <cough> significant birthday. It was wonderful, and our hotel was actually serviced apartments in a magnificent old building in the old city - if I had to choose a location to stay in Prague for all the main attractions I would place the pin right on the location of our hotel. The description at booking.com (where I booked it) claimed that all apartments had a view of the castle, which some might but most, including ours, didn't. I did say to the hotel and they said it was Booking.com's description and I wrote to Booking.com (really so they could just amend the details for the good of future bookers) but Booking.com said they use the hotel's description and it would speak to them but they weren't at fault, and as such there was nothing they could do. No great problem to us or our stay though, we were always out and about and only there first and last thing.
A while later I got an email inviting me to write a review on their website of the hotel and I did - praised it and mentioned about the misleading description, and how booking.com and the hotel both blamed each other and both said they were not responsible. This is going back 9 months now and I never gave it much of a thought since.
Recently I was looking for another hotel and as usual checked out booking.com and thought while there I would just take a look to see if they had changed the view description. They had not and what is more, my review had been removed.
Now those that know me appreciate that I am one for a cause and I was shocked to realise that booking.com might keep the good reviews and 'lose' the not so good. Naive perhaps but I didn't think they would do that! So this old campaigner went off to Tripadvisor and did the review there - explaining all, including how my review on Booking.com disappeared, and I quoted the view description, with a photo of our view - which was another apartment and a roof, no castle.
I soon got a message (via Tripadvisor) from the Booking.com "legal department" - apologising that we did not get the accommodation we believed we had booked, and refunding ALL our money (nearly £200!!!)
Thanks Booking.com Tripadvisor :D

With only 200 quid badger - surely not ;)

Result indeed - certainly worth the effort.

Flipping heck thats ace! I always write a review on TA and have just done one on Booking.com for our most recent soujourn! I've never had an acknowledgement let alone a refund- mind you I've not complained about anything- but still.....!
-
Wow, a full refund.
Did they ask you to write something on Tripadvisor about it?
-
Strangely not - I was waiting for that too. They didn't ask me to remove my TA review or edit it or in fact ask me to do anything at all. Looking at the Tripadvisor site I can't actually see any way to edit a review either.
-
Are you planning to write something?
-
Well not really - as I can't edit my review I'd have to write a new one which seems less effective than editing/adding a footnote to the original one. If they asked me to I would do another one though.
