I have joined a Group on Facebook because of the Old Photos of Fethiye and Calis. I hope that they upload more.
Old Photos from Fethiye VideolarI (http://"http://tr-tr.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.234680539886414.59999.234653969889071&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=234680573219744&set=a.234680539886414.59999.234653969889071&type=3&theater")
I think you can view without joining.

Wow they've nicked our IanK's bike ride video https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=2034750822021

Excellent - thank you for those photos, I love seeing old pictures, amazing to think there was once a railway line running through Calis - no signs of that today, and no sign of the canal??
-
The railway line was for transporting locally mined chromium onto boats that docked at the end of the beach (now Sat Restaurant).
-
If you walk out towards the Sat at the end of the beach and take a close look as you walk along the footpath, you can still see the old rail lines in places.
Also if you take a swim in the sea you'll probably stub your foot on one of the old blocks of concrete that was part of the construction..:D
-
Yes I wanted to swim to Sovalye Island from there but someone had changed the points and I ended up in Rhodes! Farmer posted saying there was (I think) a land shift caused by earth tremor that tipped the tracks seaward, so that was the end of that.
-
Reminds me of another great CBF topic {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}23306
I wonder how long before they get nicked too ;)
-
A neighbour (a guy in his 70's) regularly swims over to the island and back. He once told me that the sea was very choppy one day so he did the return swim underwater!
-
thanks i enjoyed the video
they must have rode some miles

Being a comparative 'Newbie' to Calis.....just over 3 years.......was lovely to see the old photos of Calis and Fethiye.Quaint and charming, but life goes on and everthing changes.Sometimes for the better and sometimes not.

Jenny you can still see the chrome mine it is an open cast one and also the canal, if you go up to catalarik bridge look to your left the old white building with all the iron work and gantries is the mine factory and office and the semi dry river which the bridge go's over is the canal ,it has been dammed and only flows when high water in the mountains :D ;)

One for old Calis hands here. My parents visted Calis somewhere around 1994 and took these photos. When they came over with us in 2011 to our place they drove me crazy asking if I knew where these places were, if anyone recognized them and whether we knew any of the children. Considering it was about 17 years after the original photos I was clearly at a loss with the people but the views I cannot work out either. The street view was allegedly the road to Hotel Athena from Calis Beach, anyone any idea about the arch and if any of our Turkish subscribers recognise themselves here then my parents send you their best wishes. I'm just looking for peace and quiet:D

The third photo is surely looking from where the aquapark is towards the dolphin roundabout junction (yet to be invented). That makes the apartments on the left the Aries apartments and a little nearer the red/orange crates are sitting at the Hotel Aries/Orient security hut of today. The building on the right would then be the Cenk Bey Hotel..? Incredible if true, great photos!

A bit blurred but looks like it
could be IS the Cenk Bay
