On our mini-tour of the Beautiful Scottish Highlands last June, Loz & I stopped off in Fort Augustus. I had to visit the loo, so went to the Toilet for Disabled, only to find that I needed a "Pass Code". when I asked at the "Toilet Reception rip-off kiosk" for the code, I was told that the person who gave the code was "out to lunch"???? They then wanted to charge for use of the normal toilet !! I told her to kiss my Scottish arse,& used the toilet,  horrible persons!!

To answer your original question it's because most disabled people have to transfer from a wheelchair to the toilet and the only way to do this is with the wheelchair at 90 degrees to the toilet. The "abled bodied" cubicles are not wide enough to allow this.

If you want to run around whilst taking a dump use a field.

Most 'Abled bodied' toilets don't give you enough room to pull your pants down SteveJ which is why where possible we all use the 'Disabled' ones.  Only when they are unoccupied of course!

I've come to the conclusion that there aren't enough disabled people. Their parking spaces are almost always empty and that's why the ablebodied use them so often.

My partner has twin daughters who are both disabled. People who use Disabled toilets and/or parking spaces should be securely locked into to a wheelchair for a week and then lets see if that experience changes their mind about absuing the facilities which are there to help people who are less able than themselves. A week would do, no need to make it a lifetime.[:(!]

I forgot to add,  if you park in a disbled paking space without a blue badge and I see you walking happily into a store without any sign of difficulty then when you return to your car there's likely to be a big sticker across your windscreen that says "I'm not disabled I'm just an inconsiderate moron".  It's my one man crusade so go sue me!

and they are real buggers to get off  :)

Seems like a good idea. Perhaps a fortnight for the able-bodied who use bogus blue badges as they may be slower to get the message.

I have a registered disabled mum and we have never applied for a 'Blue Badge' and never park in a disabled bay even.  If you can't fit into the normal size toilets that are around what are you supposed to do??

So, you're going to make a right twat of yourself if you put one of your stickers on someone's screen and they then come back out of the shop accompanied by somebody in a wheelchair, eh ? You've obviously put a lot of effort into your cunning plan matey. :D

KKOB - Disabled spaces are for Blue Badge holders ONLY. An abled bodied driver picking up a disabled passenger can not park in disabled car parking space. Blue badges are for the sole use of the disabled person whose photograph appears upon it and that person has to be in the car not being picked up as you suggest. The use of a blue badge when the disabled person is not actually in the vehicle is regarded as abuse and can (but never does) result in the withdrawal of the badge.

Would you care to stand corrected Matey? :)

Cheers  - I'm afraid that I don't understand your question. The use of disabled toilets isn't governed by a Blue Badge or any other sort of identification. It relies on common sense, good manners and consideration. If a disabled person has to wait to use a toilet because an abled bodied person is in there then this can be the cause of distress, embarassment and accidents of the bladder variety.  If your mother is a registered disabled person then of course she is entitled to use the disabled.

I'm not intending to climb on a soap box (honest) but disabled rights is something I obviously care about.

Obviously it is something we all care about SteveJ.  I asked what should you do if you are too big to fit in a normal size toilet?  Most people using the disabled toilets do so for a reason.  They may not be in wheelchairs (Which is an obvious sign of being disabled) but have debilitating problems which could cause the same distress, embarrassment and accidents you have mentioned.  People with a colostomy for example do not have the facilities they need in an ordinary public toilet but to all intents and purposes look able bodied so therefore not allowed to use them without somebody having something to say or depositing a sticker on their car that they did so?  Not only of the bladder variety I may add.

Nobody needs a soap box here SteveJ its a 'Discussion forum'.

I can't help being frustrated when there are loads of disabled parking places in a full car park but no, I wouldn't park in one - I can understand questioning the balance of spaces though.

Disabled loos are another matter - if I was desperate whilst waiting in the usual never-ending queue for the ladies, then yes, if nobody else was apparently heading to use it then probably I would. :-\
There's no difference between me using it or another disabled person.  Someone has to wait.

You may not be desperate when you head for the loo but you invariably are when there are 5 people ahead of you!!
If I was really "in a hurry" I would even use the Gents.....but that would have to be in a situation of very, very, very extreme need :D

That isn't really the case though - a disabled person has no choice but to wait if another disabled person is in it, but shouldn't have to wait for someone who shouldn't be using it!

I would always use the gents as a first resort if ladies has too big a queue and I were desperate, but would have sent my late husband or a male friend in to check them out first, on holiday in Tunisia 20 years ago a bar we frequented didnt have a ladies so a Tunisian waiter would go in and chase all men out for me first then stand guard outside :)

Next choice somewhere quiet and suitable outside, eg, in a nettle bed etc, make sure there are Dock leaves close to hand :D Handy for a variety of uses  :)

Very Very extreme need where I lived would be to ask the proprietor for disabled key Because where I lived, most disabled toilets were locked, and registered disabled people were given a key that unlocks all of them and the bars and restaurants kept a spare key to the toilets and you had to ask to borrow it
