Booked and paid for 9 flights with Aegean last year the day before they went bust, not re-booked any flights yet for this year could anyone recommend an airline, Thos Cook seem to be most reasonable at the moment.
-
Try This website :)
http://www.skyscanner.net/
-
Jet2.com seem to be heavily featured BUT although their prices look good, when you add their expensive luggage (22k hold & 10k hand) along with booking fees etc. they like the rest are expensive. I don't think there will be any bargains in 2012.
-
Lynne, would hate to recommend anyone to be honest, I had booked with Aegean as well :-(. I booked this year with Monarch as we have been with them many times, I think they are one of the best if not the best airline...in my opinion.... They are not the cheapest but not that far out compared to the rest.....and I think they have least delays TC always have delays.....
-
Jet2 only fly from Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds & East Mid at present, so if you're in the south, they're a non starter
-
Hope you are wrong Liz, we are booked to fly from newcastle! :D
-
OK had forgotten Newcastle, but the south it ain't
-
I hope you are wrong as well, cause we have booked to fly from Glasgow, and yes I know it's still not South, We flew with Jet2 last year for the first time and were very impressed, yes they do add a price on for your luggage but it is 22Kg. I priced Thomas Cook a couple of weeks ago and at first though they were cheaper but they add your luggage as an extra now as well (certainly if you are only booking flights) not sure if it is different for a package and they were dearer than Jet2
-
If you don't mind changing planes Pegasus are good and luggage is included in the price but go through Skyscanner.
-
Jet 2 Planes have a bit more leg room.
-
Pegasus planes have more leg room than Thomas Cook, and their prices are quite reasonable too.
-
Thanks for the advice need to book some flights to have something to look forward to in the summer
-
Hello Lynne, this is my first post apart from introduction so hope I have done it right. Just wanted to say that Monarch fly Gatwick to Dalaman if thats any help. Not sure from where in the south you are from
I used them last year and have booked again for September, I liked the ability to book seats with extra leg room rather than the rush to get a decent seat with easyjet.
-
monarch ALL the way this year..customer service excellant..prices much more competitive than easy jet...they have assured us no more flight changes for dalaman.!!!
-
Hi we have flown with monarch and thomas cook and monarch win..cant fault them in any way, good luck with your search.
-
Monarch also have an offer on at the mo, think it is called a lucky dip where you either get 5, 10 or 15 pounds off return flights, you get a code it is on their website, think it ends quite soon though.
-
I have flown on a different Airline every time cos I am a skinflint tight fisted b*****d! Havent found much difference to be honest, it depends where you live as well of course!
I have never flown Thomas Cook but am considering them this time as good price compared to Easy jet from Manchester.
Only thing putting me off a bit is this "pay to choose seat" business. I dont mind where I sit on a short flight but i do like sit with my wife and not somewhere else. Is this just a smart way of making money and you still get to sit together if you book with an agency that is cheaper?
I found that the Easyjet Early boarding so many peiople pay it now it is no serious advantage.
Any experience anyone?

Pay to choose your seat if there is only two of you is a waste of money in my view.
We fly as a family of 4 and never opt for this and so far have not been unlucky
-
Hi lynne ive just booked easyjet after looking at TC Thomson and easyjet... best price was TC but we choose not to use them.
Never had a problem in choosing seats with my family as by law kids under a certain age must be seated with parent/carer.Its worked out fine for us in the past and will we hope again.
Tc was 230 pp easyjet 245 pp and Thomson 279. this is a mix of Glasgow and Edinburgh departures for September. Not wat your looking for but should give you a rough idea what others are paying.
-
I have a Jet2.com ticket Glasgow to Dalaman 19 October. Including luggage 22k hold & 10k hand PLUS chosen seat - any offer considered plus buyer pays for name change. Excellent flight time.
-
Ray you'd be better adding your ticket to the buy and sell forum
-
Thanks Ann, will do.
-
Have been looking at flights with skyscanner have never booked with them i see the return flights with tc are in euros does this work out ok when they use the exchange rates,
-
You get a choice to pay in Euros or £'s if I remember right, I opted last year for payment in Euros because the rate they offered was rubbish. Then I paid by barclaycard only to be ripped off with the conversion rate from them.
If you can pay by Nationwide credit card they don't charge for conversion (I beleive) and I think you will find it cheaper to pay Euros.
-
Folks, dont forget after the experiences of the last few years, if you pay by credit card it costs you a few pounds, but, if they go bust you can get your money back quicker!
If you pay a bit more fro travel insurance you can also insure against failures there as well.
For what it costs, the peace of mind is worth it?

have you looked at turkish airlines...have to fly to istanbul..then connecting flights to dalaman...alot cheaper in august approx £286 ..return that includes inflight meals,23kg luggage plus free drinks whils on board.
-
Well, it is like most things in life ----dependant upon things like where you can fly from, day of the week etc. For ecxample from Manchester although it is a few pounds less --- and it is just a few
pounds if you work it all out carefully, it is a very long flight time and inconvenient times and days.
Worth a look though and thanks for the advice!
I am going to have a lo0ok at flying to Rhodes and the ferry as it coiuold be an interesting way to get to Calis and back as well, will see what I can find out!

Just remember the ferry is often cancelled in bad weather, don't rely on the timings to make a connecting flight.
-
We've flown Monarch, Thomas Cook and last year got a great deal from Easy Jet, booked in February paying only £438 for 2 flights from Stansted in August! Flight was on time, basic but no problems and would definately fly with them again. Am checking their website daily waiting for that deal!!
