Is patara beach worth going to and how do you get there from fethiye thanks ;)

It is well worth a visit in the Summer. It is a long sandy beach with a lot of Lycian and Roman ruins behind it. There is a cafe on the beach and also a small village on the road down to the beach. It is situated off the main road just before you get to Kalkan.

i cannot remember if it is for the upkeep of the ruins or the beach

lance, when we went a couple of years ago, we got the bus to Kas/Kalkan from the main Otogar in Fethiye. It drops you off at the top of the long narrow road down to Patara then you catch the dolmus from there. Make sure when you get your ticket in Fethiye you tell them you're going to Patara then they'll know to drop you there. Definitely worth a visit, including Patara village itself.

We went in November - well worth going, its miles long of beautiful white sand. You do pay to go on but its well worth it and only a minimal charge. I asked if dogs were allowed and they are only on a lead though.

2nd you ask your friendly "Supacabby" to drive you there in his nice shiny hire car :D

I think the charge is because the site is a National Park (like the lagoon part of the beach at Olu Deniz). The money is used for purposes decided for it by the Government - no doubt in all sorts of mysterious and unaccountable ways. But I think it is only 5TL and covers ancient remains on way to beach.

The 5Tl charge is per person, not per car. If you intend to go back within the week, you can get a multi-entry ticket. There is a new road to the village, this by-passes the narrow road from the main road, a big improvement. The beach is all sand over it's full lenght, this can be a problem if it is windy. 8)

Alan, the new road sounds good. Does the dolmus go that way?

When you get off the "big bus", you get the local dolmus as previous. It would appear that more chickens are now living longer since the new road; every little helps.
The restoration of the Roman settlement is taking a long time, but it is getting there. I understand that the site is credited to have the worlds first lighthouse. Apart from the obvious, it helped with shallow sea bottom; hence it is good for kids swimming. 8)

Well worth a visit.We spent a wonderful day there on the beach and around the ruins and lunch in the village.The new road to Patara is a dream to drive.
