Day 2 of the hire car, not as bright & sunny as yesterday but still dry & relatively warm.
Started up at the top of Fethiye by Kale Park, drove over the mountain road to Gemile beach then Kayakoy for lunch at:

Onward to Olu Deniz (yuk!) & back through Hisaronu & Ovacik (double yuk!). Quick detour up to Camkoy as I'd seen the sign on the front of a dolmus (nothing there really) then back home for the evening.
Enjoy the pics, as normal only low resolution ones on FB for speed of upload & the album is public so no need to be an FB user to view.

Mark, Good pictures but you're comments about crops being destroyed are way off the mark. The Kaya valley floods every year, and the farmers rely on it happening. Although the flooding is an inconvenience to the few ordinary householders in the valley it brings nourishment to the land and it's because of that flooding that farmers are able in most cases to produce 2 or 3 crops from one field in a year.
-
Thanks KKOB, didn't know that, happy to be corrected.
Do they also normally flood the houses? Water lapping above front door steps etc? Saw that yesterday :(
-
It does happen sometimes, but most of the inhabitants are used to it and just accept it as a fact of life.
Our house, which you can just about see surrounded by Eucalyptus trees in the shot across the fields from the Gemiler Road, is built on a 1.5 metre high raft of concrete so is virtually flood proof. Although at the height of the floods our gardens are underwater and we have upto a metre of standing water in the trees which can last for several weeks. On the plus side, the flooding means that the ground stays damp for several weeks into the spring and summer and it keeps the wells and aquifers topped-up, so we always have free water.

Great pictures, captured it all so well.

Hey Mark,
just sent you an email then saw these!
Be a bit careful if you go way off beaten track in Mountains if it has been raining and then comes out warm. 2 years ago Iwas running for my life, (seriously) as an avalanche of mud, stones and rocks just misssed me! Many of the rocks would have killed me, up to 2-3ft diameter!
Just a minute before a car had passed me and gone up the road!
I got away with scratches and grazes and ruined my new trainers, seemed amusing relating the story to Irish Cliff in Kemer for those who know him, but wasnt funny at the time.
My wife told me later she just stood there thinking "he's gone", and was very relieved to see my little bald head emerge above the cliff, it was not thye sheer droip she thought! (She never was any good with policies etc. :D

Cheers for the rest of the info Meldrew, just to say I haven't got a mail from you.
Ok to you too Alan, if I'd have known that was your house I'd have nipped in for a cay!

Well, you'd probably have been made welcome mate, but not by us. Unfortunately we're in Wales at the moment and our house is rented out.
