Title: Internet Connection
Post by: jackstee on February 24, 2012, 18:51:20 PM
Well, after using a dingle for the last six months or so we took the pluline and got a telephone line and broadband.

Very easy. Applied at the new Turk Telecom near the cinima on Wednesday.

Got wired up on Thursday.

WyFi Router fitted on Friday along with Phone.

Phone connected by 4 o'clock and internet connected by 6.

8 MB download, unlimited, around 55 TL per month. Brilliant.

Anyone need details then contact me.

Can i ask if its fast enough to watch streaming Tv, Uk tV access and the like do you know? I gave up on Turk Telecom internet nearly 2 years ago and got a Vinn dongle because I was paying around 80tl a month for phone and internet and the internet line was so slow, even though it was supposed to be the fastest available! The engineers said it was slow because of old cables. Anyway I took digiturk basic tv package at 22 tl which has now gone upto 30tl and is is fairly rubbish! So now paying 70tl a month for 4 gb on dongle and rubbish tv!
Ive been thinking of dumping Digiturk and going back to Turk telecom for uk tv on my computer, especially now ive moved house, maybe my phone lines will be better here

Thanks Steve, really useful info. Like Julesp it seems that internet service is very different street by street rather than by service provider. Does anyone have a good connection towards the top end of Baris Manco (around the Palms area)

We are behind Genpa, Calis and we can watch streaming TV normally without a problem. Of course this does vary on time of day etc, but generally it is fine.

I'm not sure if this is near enough, but I think TT have upgraded some of their cables, so you may find it is better now.

If you find someone near to you, ask them to perform a test to check the speed http://www.speedtest.net/

I could offer you all sorts of technical advice about identifying the broadband speed, but the best and most simplest method, which is generally correct 99% of the time, is what sort of speed are your nearby neighbours getting?  Ask them, because since youy were last on broadband the local telephone cable network (or parts of it) could have been replaced or upgraded, eliminating some of the problems that existed some time ago.  Also all broadband services has been upgraded in the last couple of years or so from an 'up to 2 meg'  to  'up to 8 meg' download speed, again this will have made a significant difference to the service you receive (even if the local network cables are still poor).

So go ask the neighbours, I'd suggest any property in the same street within 50-100 metres of your place.

New options from TTNET , the faster FIBERNET :

http://www.ttnet.com.tr/web/532-2711-1-1/tur/evde_ttnet/baglanti_cesitleri_-_fibernet/kisaca

Not applicable everywhere , but worth asking if possible at your address.

One of the options e.g. is  : Unlimited , up to 20 Mbps speed + 600 minutes WiFi for 65 TL monthly.
