Title: Street Dog Shot Dead
Post by: quackers on February 26, 2012, 14:28:10 PM: Our beloved steet dog called Sybil was shot dead in front of us this morning in Koca Calis. She was following our car home when outside Mutlu's Restaurant 2 men on a scooter drove past and shot her. The Jandarma are looking for 2 men with high powered air rifle (posssibly pump action)They were on a dark coloured scooter.If anyone sees them in Koça Caliş or Caliş or surrounding area please take the number of the scooter or decription of the men . We would like to get them off the streets before they do anymore damage to animals or humans.

We shall be going to the Jandarma office tomorrow to make a statement on the events so they have a true record and take the matter seriously. Unfortunately when they came to the beach everyone was talking at the same time and not in english. We know they did not get the true picture of the events, so we are taking our interpreter friend with us.The men on the scooter were blatently holding the gun like a cowboy on a horse so they must have been seen by someone. Its not an everyday event seeing men on a scooter holding a rifle.

Please dont take this the wrong way, but what is the diferrence between a street dog and a wild dog, been here for a couple of years now i see dogs running about with no collar on starving with hunger, even on the the prom dogs are hanging about the restaurants, some have collars on , so im asuming the owners just let them out to run around, if they have owners why dont they look after them.

As she was a quiet placid dog they neutered and put a tag in her ear and placed her in our area. We did not have a street dog till then. She became our friend when she joined us for walks with our dogs. We looked after her for 4 years. We fed her twice a day ,wormed and fibrolined her .We also made sure she had all her injections every year as she mixed with our dogs. She trusted us but was a free spirit and would only stay in with us during storms and cold weather. She was a good neigbourhood watch dog and would bark if there was anyone strange roaming our area at night.She was naughty and chased cars(only turkish ones, she could read number plates)we reckon she was a traffic cop in a previous life as they had to be going fast before she chased them. Our neighbours ,Turkish and English, are shocked that she has been shot as they all loved her.

I am so sorry for your loss poor Sybil, at least she had the comfort of your love and food whilst she was here, really really hope they manage to catch the lowlifers and maybe they should have a taste of their own medicine somewhere where it would hurt them a great b****y deal.

Post by: stoop on February 26, 2012, 20:47:34 PM: How sad and infuriating! We have made many street dog 'friends' in Koca Calis over the years and I'm sure we will have seen Sybil. Most of them are lovely dogs who are trusting and friendly and this cruel act makes my blood boil.

I hope they are caught and punished.

Post by: quackers on February 27, 2012, 11:22:11 AM: We have been to the Jandarma and made an official report and have a copy. We have been told the laws on owning air rifles. They are similar to the UK laws. You can own one and hold it on your premises but you cannot fire it in a public area or gardens attached to bars. You cannot carry one outside your home/bar unless it is unloaded and in a case/bag. The Jandarma advise us that if we see anyone carrying or firing a gun to report it to them and they will take it very seriously.Even report the people doing target practice on Koça Caliş beach. The laws are going to be changed soon and made harder for people to own a gun.

Post by: quackers on February 27, 2012, 13:11:29 PM: Yes positive as there was little noise and the hole in Sybil was quite small . They shot her from a range of about 2 feet. We had seen someone with the gun earlier in the day. Norman used to belong to a gun club so he knows what they look like.

Spoken to Land of Lights and they will put some coverage on FB and on their own website also as the next LOL is not due out until 12th March but they will contact the Fethiye Times to publish what has happened, they were asking if you had a photograph of Sybil to publish and if you would mind doing that?...if you dont mind maybe Andy would sort that with you..probably could e mail to LOL for them to publish.

We need to get as many high profile people involved in this as possible so that it does not happen again.

Am really feeling for you and all who knew and loved Sybil. If anyting happened to our street dog Spot of 6yrs would feel exactly the same. My biggest concern was, what if the gun had gone off accidently and it had been a child...........

Paper copy on 12 March,we know it won't bring her back but we hope it will make people more aware and enable the vile creatures who did this to her to be caught and punished.
