There appears to be a new chinese restaurant on the road up to Gunlukbasi from Calis on the right hand side, is it open and has anyone tried it?
-
not open yet Andy, but looks quite impressive.
-
I think the one in Hisaronu is called Shanghai Blue, perhaps it's a branch?
-
yes it is Jacqui.
-
Or another genuine fake :D: :)

Then I hope the lady who keeps it running to the high standard can be in two places at once:D We often frequent the Hisaronu Shanghai Blues, but had the mis fortune to pick a night last year when she wasnt there and it was like a different place
-
Can someone be more specific where this restaurant is please.
-
Coming from the seafront on the main road to Gunlukbasi, over the roundabout where Aydin Pizza is and its a ittle way up on the right hand side, nearly opposite what was the Koc Sun Hotel.

I guess that's why they call it the blues
-
Wonder if it's the old 'ladies of the night' place?
-
Wasn't that on the left hand side Anne? Mind you, there were a few of those places along that road 2 or 3 years back! :o :-\ :)
-
We have eaten at the one in Hisaronu and it's always been very good. Last time we where going there we mentioned it to Elvis at Booty and he gave us a note for the Management and we got 10% off the meal.
-
Apparently it's a take away only, run by the same people who have the Shanghai Blues in Hisaronu
-
well its a very big take away if it is
-
Eat in or takeaway cant wait as its very near us.
-
Me to:D
-
We have eaten at Hisaronu Shanghai Blues also - best chinese by far. So looking forward to this one. Take away will be fine as it is very close to our apart. :)
-
That will do me as well :D
-
Spoke to Louise on Saturday and hopefully be opening in 10 days, they will do deliveries too and numbers are 025206133030 and 05350768585.
-
it says restaurant on the front
-
Opening just in time for my sister coming over.Cant wait to have a decent Chinese meal here.
-
Shanghai Blues opened on Wednesday, it's both a resaurant and takeaway, not heard any feedback yet, but hopefully I'll be giving it a go on Saturday, so I'll let you know...
-
The current situation is that the take-away is open, the resturant will open next week, no exact day was given yesterday. 8)
-
Waiting with bated breath. If its anything like the one in Hisaronu it will be great.Always good reviews from there.
-
had a takeaway today. was well impressed. hope they keep it going. service excellent and very nice people.
-
Marvellous, marvellous - just over the road from us too and ideal if we feel like a lazy night in (unlikely) or a very short walk!
-
Went tonight, 4 tables in area open at present, restaurant next door ready, but will not open till the summer season, food pretty good, though for value for money not a patch on the Serkul's.
-
Was it a bit pricey then?

Yes, but Serkul's (1 or 2) is not a real chinese. ;)
-
On the subject of prices, the menu they are using at the moment aparently is the one from the Shanghai at Hisaronu, they told a friend of mine who was there yesterday, that the prices will be lowered for Calis a new menu is being printed.
-
He said there would be a new Calis menu, but only because the phone numbers are different if you want to phone through an order for a delivery service, no mention of price reduction!
Price wise, all chicken dishes were 11.50tl, beef dishes 16.90 to 18.90, all Lamb dishes 18.90, seafood dishes mostly 20.90, duck dishes 37.90 to 39.90. Vegetable dishes 9.50!! All rice noodles etc, extra on top average 8.00, starters average 6.00.
A chicken meal with starter, main, a veg and rice around 35tl
Ohh!! and Efes 5tl:D
-
Well as I said the information was through a 3rd party so he may have misunderstood. Hopefully I will be giving it a try tonight so I will see if I can get some clarification :)
-
Have tried this place out a number of times. Unfortunately Ive never come out feeling satisfied. Portions are in the just enough bracket.
-
We dont know why everyone raves about Shanghai Blue In Hisaronu. We have been twice and found it bland and not good portions. Give me a good Indian meal any day. I really wish that someone would open a really good English style Indian takeaway. There would be queues down the road. Mmmm. Rogan josh.
-
Think if the portions arent big enough we should just tell them. Its a new venture and hopefully they wont want to loose customers. I am not a happy bunny unless I'm full up:D
-
We have eating at this restaurant in Hisaronu a number of times and we have always enjoyed it. Never found the portions too small there. It has a nice atmosphere and lovey views over the mountains. We usually have a starter and main course, but no room for a dessert. As they have two Chefs from Hong Kong we have always thought the food to be very authentic. Looking forward to seeing if the Calis branch matches up with the one in Hisaronu.
-
According to the Shanghai menu they are from Shanghai!!
and thers's a wonderful view of the teachers hostel opposite!!
-
We ate there last night. The restaurant area at the moment is quite small (4 tables) but they are expanding this to upstairs and into the area next door in the next few weeks. Food was very good, with decent sized portions and the open style kitchen meant you could see your meal being prepared. Total bill for starters mains and wine for 2 people 58TL. The only thing we did point out to the manager there was that although the servings were piping hot they could do with warming the plates before serving which he agreed he would be a good idea.
I would certainly be comming back but would probably use the take away option untill they have the restaurant side finished.
-
Baz, There is a sign at the one in Hissy that has a picture of the Chefs and a blurb saying they are from Hong Kong. In fact, we where told that on the first visit we made. So perhaps they have a new Chef?
Phil, Thanks for that sounds good. However, is there any place in Calis or Fethiye that give you food on hot plates? It's always been a pet hate of mine that food is serviced on freezing cold plates, you sit outside, perhaps in a breeze and the food gets cold very quickly. One reason my husband orders sizzling meals down at the prom so they stay hot!! It would definitely be a plus for us if some of these restaurants got a plate warmer.
-
I think it's quite amazing that a restaurant manager would be grateful for advice to serve meals on warm plates. Surely any restaurant manager wouldn't need to be advised of such a basic idea. I know it isn't exactly widespread in the Fethiye area but surely the idea hasn't avoided him entirely till the 18th of March 2012!
-
ah but this is one of the few chefs that didnt come from the Hilton Istanbul to Calis
-
If its anything like the one in Hisaronu it will be good. In our opinion the Hisaronu one is the best in the area. The last time we were there we were entertained by two older english ladies showing their two young turkish 'boyfriends' how to use chopsticks :D

Understood. One of the never ending list who used to be one of the top chefs at the Savoy in London then...
-
I ate there last night and thought it was very good, definatley better than the others in calis. We ate in the restaurant so its definatley eat in or takeaway. They dont do the set menu though.
-
Do not like the one in Hisaronu so will not be going here - I way prefer Serkul 2.
-
The one in Hisaronu has always offered 18.90TL 'special'. 2 startes, main course with rice or noodles, and icecream, tea of coffee. Good choice and we've always come away full. Was this not on offer in Calis?
-
Not yet, but as I said the restaurant is not fully open yet, at present there are only 4 tables....
-
Best place for Chinese is the Dragonara is Hisaronu - their food is excellent.

Agreed
-
Disappointing that what seems to be a geniune Chinese Restaurant has opened in Calis, which IMO would seem to be a good thing, but some people are slagging it off already (some without even giving it a try) and some are recommending that instead of eating in Calis we should all travel 20 miles into the mountains. Come on guys, lets look at a new place in Calis as a asset.

Agreed! At least try it, before you knock it and if you want to give your opinion on what you think is the best chinese, start your own topic...
-
Good idea Phil {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}46133
-
That should be enough material for several days of on-line debate...:D
-
That's what I'm here for ;)
-
I had a take away from here last Saturday, the portion sizes were generous but overall the food (IMO) was only mediocre. The spring rolls were heavy and the spicey Satay chicken was very bland. Saying that the Chicken fried noodles were divine.
You will have to give it a try, what suits my palate will be different to someone else's :)
-
Been twice and it was a great change. I agree its a good thing for calis as im sick of meatballs or pide. I sat in twice but think as a take away like the uk i will probably use it that way. Its all open so you can watch them cook your meal which is a nice touch. Give it a try and make up your own minds.
-
Went tonight and was pleased with the food and portions. Best chinese that we have had here in Turkey and only 10 mins down the hill. Will definately be going again....
If anyone in Uzumlu wants the take away delivery service it's orders over 50tl and then they'll deliver for 10tl. Will have some menu's tomorrow night at the Grapes if anyone wants one.
Chicken dishes from 10.90tl(the majority) to 11.50tl. Beef dishes all bar two are 14.90tl the most expensive being 18tl. All lamb dishes 17tl.Duck dishes 35.50tl to 37.50tl. Veggie dishes all 9.50tl. Rice from 4tl to 7.50tl and noodle 7.50tl to 10.50tl.
-
Had takeaway service last night, food excellent, portions ample size and very good quality, certainly better than both serkuls and the best ive had in calis and fethiye.:D:D
-
Agree with Fiona and Des on this :)[^]
Prawn and Fish dishes range from 15tl up to 20.90tl
-
just ignore this I was behind myself
-
We were awaiting the opening of this new restaurant as a take-away, particularly as it is really close to our house. Unfortunately on Tuesday 20th we were very disappointed. We found the portion sizes to be small, especially the BBQ spare ribs. There were only 3 very small ribs for 9.90TL. Crispy chicken main was dry and overcooked, sweet and sour chicken was OK.
All in all it cost 43TL for 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 various rice.
From our perspective, it was pretty mediocre, and the Serkul's on the sea front leave it standing.
Hopefully, it will improve as it could be a great opportunity for those living/holidaying in this area.

Have eaten in Shanghai Blues since it opened (must be 6/7 years ago) and probably had over 100 meals there. NEVER ever had a bad meal - OK some were better than others but nothing has been unacceptable.
-
This topic is about the new Shanghai Blues in Gunlukbasi KK.
I too have eaten many times at the one in Hisaronu; always off the bargain priced set menu - 2 starters, main and a choice of accompaniment and dessert which apparently isn't currently on the menu at the new one, yet.
However I remember when Shine branched out to Calis which unfortunately did not compare to the Hisaronu Shine and we had probably the worst Indian meal there ever.
It must be very hard to replicate a restaurant in terms of quality and standards as you can't have the same chef in two places at once.
I wish them luck in Calis - hopefully it will make a name for itself in its own right.
-
Hi Jacqui,
As yet we haven't been near the restaurant again, so haven't said anything to them, it was a takeaway that we had. Sorry Des I understand that you disagree with my comments, and I'm happy that you and many others have enjoyed your food. I was hoping for good things, but we were very disappointed with ours.

Mrs tintin1504 loves Chinese food, so we tried this restaurant Saturday 24th March (I got drug along!) but I have to say the food was great.Value for money was good and will definately go again.T.
-
Its funny how there is so many different opinions ,but i have to say that i would have to agree with cathy ,after four of us went out for a few drinks in the afternoon,we ordered from them and had it delivered to the local bar we were drinking in ,wasnt till we got home and opened it that couldnt believe how they called the ribs a portion was exactly as Cathy said ,and our friends didnt even get theres or one portion of thier rice although they had been charged for it,was 60 lira a couple not cheap and also not so big portions ,i feel they should make an effort being a new reataurant ,they may make thier money in the high season ,but not sure how they will fair in the winter months ,we will see:(
-
It begs the age old question.....Did you complain so they know about the problem?
-
When we were living in Fethiye, we used to dine at the shanghai blues in Hisaronu quite often, and twice we ordered take-away (which we used to pick up ourselves). On both occasions, the take-away food was smaller in comparison to the size of eat in portions. Also noted that it was actually cheaper to eat in.
-
When I come out in May, I will definately try the restaurant, and as an expert food critic you will have my honest opinion! :D
-
Mick makes a wicked curry and my special fried rice aint bad, we topped it up with spring rolls, sesame prawn toast and vegtable noodles which cost us 20TL- the cheeky bugger who took our order said is that all you want? They gave us vegetable rice(which incidentally was not even a saucerfull) instead of noodles. Off went Mick again to tell them they made a mistake. They really didnt want to change it and made a big deal of doing so which considering was there mistake was a no no in my book. Not impressed, over priced and under portioned.:(
-
I prefer my own chinese, stir fried with noodles, at least I know what meat I'm adding! :P
-
We ate in the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and were very satisfied.
The food was delicious and the portions large.
Larger than I was used to from the Hisaronu Shanghai Blues.
However, I must say that the restaurant is lacking in atmosphere.
I understand that it has been set up as a take away restaurant but it seems that people do prefer to eat in.
There were only four tables and the lights were very bright (as in good Turkish style).
-
Any news on various "set-menu" options?
-
I ate there a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night. Got there early at 19:00 and it was already full! Thankfully someone was just leaving so they accommodated us. I thought the service and food was excellent. Had some good banter with the waiter who seemed to be in charge. Spoke about the lack of tables and he explained that it was originally only going to be a take-away, but people kept saying that they wanted to eat-in.
I guess as there is plenty of garden space at the front, they will be able to accommodate more tables, although the size of the kitchen may not be able to cope.
Will definitely be going back when next over.
-
We ate there last night.
Service and food was good. The plates had been warmed.
There are now tables outside as well as inside.
-
We had a meal here a couple of weeks back - best Chinese I've had in years, and the service was excellent too. We'll definitely be going again when we return in four weeks time. :)
-
Had take away from there last night Beef Noodles were superb and under 10 lira for a huge portion same with special fried rice 7 TL and loads of chip Definitely will return.
-
Four of ate there last night, the food, service etc could not be faulted, even the plates were warm.We all ordered different main courses and unlike other places we have eaten they were actually different.
We will definitely be going back,
