Does anyone know the laws in Turkey regarding smoking in your hotel room?Do you have to go outside on your balcony,if there is one,to smoke or can you smoke in your actual room?Sensible replies please, this is a genuine question.

Not sure - have read that it is "all indoor areas including restaurants and bars".

The application of the law may be a little more relaxed around here but generally its no smoking in hotel rooms although on the balcony or hanging out a window would be acceptable  :)

I don't think hotel bedrooms are covered, as they are not public areas as such. I've seen a number of places where they have a small sign in the bedroom asking peeps to smoke only on the balcony, which seems reasonable. It does *ee me off though when they can't be bothered to provide an ashtray & I have to wade through a pole of someone else's dog ends

It seems to be a simple case of different rules for different hotels. When I was in istanbul a few months back, smoking in the rooms was not a problem. I have a hotel booked for Bodrum in a months time and it's a choice of smoking or non smoking room. I am off to Antalya this weekend and the hotel says all rooms non smoking.

As a sympathetic ex-smoker I must ask, who would want to smoke in the room when there is a balcony to make use of? Even when I was a smoker, I'd much prefer to sit out than fill a small room with smoke.

One thing to remember if you do sit and smoke on your balcony - try not to flick your ash on the people below you. Might seem obvious but I've been in rooms where the people above have just flicked their ash and thrown their dead fags over the edge. Not nice if it lands in your coffee and dangerous if it lands in my beer  ;)

I would have thought most hotel rooms would have smoke alarms these days - so smoking inside would not be a good idea unless you want your ears shredding  :o

In U.K. non smoking rooms have smoke alarms.  My son and his fiancee where staying in an Hotel in Aberdeen on New Years' Eve. They were woken by the Fire Alarm at 6.00am in the morning of New Year's Day.  Everyone had to assemble outside the Hotel.  It turned out someone was smoking in a non-smoking room (this Hotel did also have smoking rooms).  The person responsible was put out of the Hotel immediately, however, my son says they could not get back to sleep and it ruined their stay.

If a hotel doesn't have smoke alarms in the rooms then I would seriously look to stay somewhere that did. It's OK if you smoke or don't as you can be very careful. Unfortunatley you cannot guarantee others will not be careless.

All Uk rooms have to have smoke alarms. It's got nothing to do with whether they are smoking / non smoking rooms, fires can start by other means too eg electrical faults

You know what I am an ex-smoker too, and like Scunner am
sympathetic to the smoker and try not to be one of those holier than Thou types I hear all the time!

I always enjoyed having a smoke on the Balcony in the morning with my coffee and with a drink in the evening, and found that if I asked for an ashtray for the Balcony the Hotel were very happy to provide one. No ash on the balcony floor to be cleaned up and no ash falling on your neighbours, problem solved for everyone!

I think the lkaw in Turkey mayu well cover rooms but apart from the odd wander in and out most smokers use the balcony.

.....and according to some hotels, steam from the shower can set them off so they kindly ask that you shut the bathroom door when showering  :o
