Spent several nights in here away tucked in away from the main bars. Turkish themed bar, where meze style food is available. Rustic seating around a central duck pond where there were several new chicks born while we were there, creates a lovely atmosphere. Turkish guitarist and singer play on a Thursday evening.
Access to the bar is through the alley across the road from Dawn beach bar where there's a sign for a tailor's shop and an artist's shop.
:D
-
Toky,is this bar/restaurant open every evening and if so,upto what time & do they have musicians every night or only on Thursday ? It sounds a really nice place to relax. Has it got a name?
-
Must look out for that,Toky, thanks for the heads up, sounds like it's down the alley where the Artist Shop is?
Tony, If you read Toky's post it's called Guitar bar (Gitarci).
-
See the lowest form of wit is not dead. Unusual name for a bar though, Guitarist. Obviously a lack of imigination/originality.

Where is the sarcasm? You asked what the name of the place was and Jacqui pointed out it was in the topic title already! No need to be rude because you missed that, surely...
-
Yes Jacqui, it's up just past the artist's shop. The guitarist is hoping to play more evnings as the season goes , but he is allegedly fulfilling other bookings he's committed to, so at the moment it's a Thursday for sure. Even without the live artist it's lovely, as they play fairly chilled out music through their outdoor speakers.
I'll upload some photos shortly
:D

The brightly lit shop is the artists. Tables around and at pond level

Sorry the quality's not great but they taken on my phone against the lighting. It just gives you an idea what its like.
:D

Thanks Toky looks nice, will give it a try when we are over. Ducklings are lovely, takes me back to when we used to keep them and they used to be wandering around in a line behind Mum
Sorry we missed you this time, perhaps we will see you in September[?]
-
Ah Jacqui, the adult ducks jumped up to ground level and had a wander around the grass. You should have heard the ducklings "crying" after them as they couldn't get up. They were wandering about confused and upset. Poor wee things.
It's a cracking wee corner of Calis.
:D

Jacqui - hope you do not find that you have a problem with the ducks living conditions when you give it a try.
-
Don't think I will "H" as they seem to be with their Parents and happy to wander free and actually walk around on dry land.
-
It's great to see life in that 'square' - for the entire time we lived in Calis it was derelict and that was such a shame. I always thought it had great potential given the chance.
-
Well good luck to the bar's owners as I think they've a wee haven there. Staff very friendly too. I'll be back.
:D
-
It looks very relaxing; I look forward to going there and listening to Turkish music. Thanks for the info and the photos.
-
Hiya, we're hoping to go here when we're over (a week Thursday!! woop) I can't quite place the alley, albeit its 3 years since we were last in Calis, is it Dawn beach bar that echo was/is at? Thanks :)
-
As you walk down from Dolphin Roundabout towards bridge it is on your right - behind the restaurants and shops closest to the roundabout. You'll see an alley between the first block of restaurants/shops and the second :)
-
Thank You :D
-
We spent several great evenings there this past fortnight.
It was lovely to sit alongside Turkish families out for the night too for a change. A wee gem in the making.
I hope they have a wonderful season, they deserve it for bringing some much missed Turkish style entertainment to Calis.
-
Glad you enjoyed it Anne, I thought it was lovely tucked away and is very charismatic.
:D
-
We discoverd the Guitar Bar last week and have to agree it is lovely. It has a decent menu and my wife can recommend the ommelet and I had a lovely Kebap.
The 4 ducklings have grown but never leave each others side, 3 white and one grey.
Makes a change to find a Turkish place like this away from the frankly horrible bars on the strip, didn't venture into them as neither of us have tattoos
-
Ouch Campervanbob. Glad you enjoyed Gitarci and it is great, but not all bars on "the strip" deserve your cynicism IMHO.
-
How do you have such a strong opinion on them when you state you didn't even go in any of them!!!
-
Is it my imagination or are folk a little tetchy ? Just reading a few topics and there are more than a few where members are being a little 'short' with one another! If we were in a bar I'd sense it was about to 'kick off!'
Anyway on this topic i'm really pleased too about this bar and this little area. It has been derelict for ages but years ago it was home to the very first soup kitchen and popular with the lads from the bars at the end of the night. It seemed to die a death so its great to see its re-emergence.

Sorry to offend but it was our 2nd visit to Calis and the first, last September, was lovely and everyone was so nice but this time (we came back on Monday) the people staying in Calis seemed a little "Chavvier" ... Is this normal? Do the types of people change from month to month?
Also seemed that far more people were Smoking and many more with Tattoos. Seemed to be catering for the Full English Breakfast rather than traditional Turkish Foods ... dare I say going down market?
Or am I just a Snob?

Smoking - Tattoos - full english........how dreadfully awful, think I'll cancel !!! ;)
-
Hope they weren't drinking that nasty Efes as well ,terrible ;) Can't wait till June !
-
I do understand the feeling campervanbob shared - although I do think it was recklessly generalistic. You will not find the "real Turkey" in Calis - maybe a taste of the welcoming, friendly laid back nature of the country but there are Turkish people arriving in Calis to work who have never seen anything like it. I don't associate smoking and tattoos with "down market" and I do/have neither myself. Nor do I consider a full English breakfast on holiday as a sign of "chavvy" behaviour. Now that is something I do - I'll have my croissants in France and cheese and ham in Holland but on holiday I don't want (although I love) a Turkish breakfast every morning for a fortnight - I'm on holiday!!!
I met some of the best people ever in that area between the dolphin roundabout and the bridge and to me whether they smoked or had a tattoo is a ridiculous way to judge people - you will miss out on meeting some wonderful characters if you choose to exclude people based on those two things.
I think Calis is unique in that it caters for everyone - and I am happy to have egg & chips at Frank Cannon's one night and spend a fortune at the fish market the next - that is one of the things the place has going for it most - it can accommodate all tastes and all budgets with ease. I just wish, after five years of living there that people can get away from this habit of "drive-by" opinions of folk.
-

I'm glad you agree that Efes is pretty nasty... even the Efes reps agree it's a pretty horrible brew!

Hmmm... maybe that's saying something - the first is in Caliş, the second in Fethiye.

Lovely place, definitely worth the visit.

That was my attempt at sarcasm, actually quite like it. ;)

Great photos, thank you. I've never seen this place before but it sounds like a great experience. Roll on September!
-
I smoke, drink Efes, have a shaved head and tattoos.I am also a nice guy with a nice family and have a very responsible job,in fact the type of job that has taught me not to be too quick to judge book by its cover.I have also owned a home in the Calis area for almost 7 years ,if I had the same attitude as the writer I would not have bought in this lovely place, had some of the life enhancing experiences that go with it nor met half of the good people I have.
-

Weird as it may sound, even when it was derelict it had a certain "something" about it - a real feeling of wasted potential. A little square tucked away right in the middle of the resort with a fountain in the middle - what's not to like :)
-
Brenda spent a couple evenings at Gitarci during her recent visit and although she said the furnishings were fairly basic she thoroughly enjoyed the ambience of the place and agreed that it provided a pleasant contrast to bars on the front.
She would recommend that you give it a try.
-
I think "rustic" is a good word to describe it too haha. Hope she enjoyed herself. xx

From the tone of your post, yes you are a snob. Shock........Horror!!!!! What a narrow perspective you have on life. Bet you are bundle of laughs on a night out. I do smoke but have no tattoos but managed to hold down a managerial post until I retired and then looked after my mother-in-law, who had alzheimers, for six years, in my opinion contributing a fair amount and making her final years as comfortable as possible . I enjoy life to the full and don't waste valuable time complaining about others lifestyle . There is a very old saying "don't judge a book by its cover". Perhaps you should ponder on this and loosen up!
-
We went last night. Lovely atmosphere, quite a few Turkish people eating and drinking there. Food was good and probably the cheapest we have paid for drinks and a meal. Would advise anyone to give it a try. We also eat at the prom, so must we now shave our heads and get tattoos to fit in?
-
Walking from the prom up the road,is this on the left?
-
Up from the viewing point, over bridge...

As I have never posted an image before I thought I would put on a picture of the Guitar Bar taken this month. We counted 14 ducks and that was before the drinks.

What a lovely looking spot, away from the hustle and bustle of the strip. Will definately take my sister here when she comes over on her next trip.Good luck to who ever is running this bar.I hope they have a successful year.
-
Lovely relaxing spot , spent two (or was it three ;)) evenings here , met nice people ,and as has been said before, reasonably priced drinks. Thanks Toky for your post, as we would never have known about it otherwise . :)
-
I just thought it was a real nice change from the "pandering to the Brits" type of bar. (which of course I frequent also). And the location is so quirky! Looking forward to a return visit later in the year too.
:)
-
We will be paying this place a visit in September, it sound reight up our street, thanks Toky, and I will admit i do av 1 tattoo, though yer can't see it unless I choose to show u my ass. x
-
Ha ha ha, that brightened up the start of my day. Give it a try, t's different and long may it stay that way. Enjoy
-
I spent a few pleasant hours here earlier in the year. Very refreshing not to have my eardrums bashed, a lovely setting, nice people. Good luck to them :)
-
