Title: Promises Auction - How YOU Can Help for Free
Post by: Scunner on May 21, 2012, 17:17:22 PM
The list is starting to take shape and as is expected it is pretty much the "usual suspects" doing the generosity bit again this year. You don't need to give something - it doesn't need to cost you a penny to help if you don't want it to.

If you are in Calis/Fethiye - enjoying a good meal, a few drinks, boat trip, excursion - buying a telly, designer T shirt, just ask for  the manager/boss and tell them about the Promises Auction and how it is to help poor local kids. Ask if they can consider donating a meal for 2/cocktails/trip/telly/T shirt/transfer and...

9 TIMES OUT OF TEN THE ANSWER WILL BE YES - I PROMISE

The committee can't possibly get round all the restaurants/tour shops/bars/shops and over 9,000 CBF members can - so PLEASE take the time to ask - the rewards are so worth it...when they agree, tell them CBF will give them huge publicity - and I will see that happens.

Thanks!

Hi Keith, thanks for your posting and support about our charity auction.  Can I please add to the above that the 3C's have some official Promises Forms that we get the "pledgers" to sign with full details of their "promise" so if anyone does come across someone or a business that would like to make a promise or donate something for the auction please can they contact us on the charity phone 0536 373 9520 or e-mail me through my profile  and we will then go and collect or sign them up.  We also will publicise their business both on the forum and at the auction.

As you rightly say we are a bit short on the ground to go everywhere so if we have leads from forum members that would be great :D

What a simple but brilliant idea!

It is quite frustrating because I *know* that the vast majority of businesses will contribute in a heartbeat - but you DO need to ask as offers are thin on the ground in Fethiye. My quest to get a TV from Bekir at Eren Spot took all my negotiating skills and about 5 seconds for him to say "no problem"!

If you are in there having a meal, or booking a day trip, why not ask? You are standing in front of them and most are delighted to help. A pledge of a meal for 2 can get £40 at the auction easily, ten of those and the 3Cs make an extra 1000 lira or more at these exchange rates.

I did it for the Starfish charity a number of years back and can't recall more than one or two who didn't sit down and agree to give something. I got the feeling these people have no idea about what is going on and as soon as they hear what we (or more correctly 3Cs) are doing for needy kids in their country, they can't wait to do their bit.

I'm not asking you to give money - just when you are out and about, think about asking - and when they say yes, you'll get a really warm feeling too  :)

I have to tell you that I have been very disappointed by a number of business who have not contributed "in a heartbeat" and despite more than one approach continue not to do so. Maybe I'm using the wrong technique. :)

John I know that to be true but face to face is the technique that works. Either that or I am the greatest salesman in the World, but I think the first statement is more likely  ;)

I should say that I have considered two alternative techniques:

1. the baseball bat OR

2. unleashing the charming Mrs H.

Perhaps a list of "businesses who refused to offer something" might do the trick  ;)

We did one and half sides of the strip in Calis and we only got 2 refusals which aint bad considering.  Dont know how many shops, bars, restaurants there are but I'm sure someone can work it out for me. Highlander if you want begging techniques email me :D
