Post by: patwev on June 22, 2012, 15:19:00 PM
I never recommend restaurants in Fethiye as they almost always let you down !
However ,the new Shaka Restaurant on the harbour ,past Naylor is AMAZING
Best ambiance,Best Food, and Best service I have ever experienced in the 8 years I have been living here
Try it

AMAZING is not the word I would use but it is certainly an improvement on the more established diners on the Kordon.

I find it a few lira more expensive than I would like but I do not grudge it because the food is good.

Unfortunately, an Efes is 6.5tl a bottle.

I agree that is worth a visit.

It is an excellent place for a snack, lunch or dinner.  We have been there a lot since it opened and have not been disappointed at all.  So what if the beer is 6.5tl, just look at the setting!

8 of us went last night, mixed reviews really.
bread given while waiting, very nice with apricot and walnut butter and olives.
We all loved the dishes and plates, candle holders and nice cutlery.
Nice to see such a varied menu, not chips rice and salad.
My seafood pasta with squid, prawn and mussels was perfect, really delicious.

2 people had meatballs, which was a huge shaped meatball with cous cous and yogurt, both enjoyed, and the fajitas were also very good.
The chicken pasta was just ordinary, the spaghetti bolognese looked like a child's portion but tasted good, the 2 Shaka burgers although tasty were cold.

2 people had desert, probably the largest slice of apple pie ever, and lemon cheesecake, both very good, beautifully presented with ice cream and cream.

Overall for location and service and most of the food being nice we loved it, slight mix up with items on the wrong bills, but nothing drastic.

food prices were strange, some things, like the spag Bol at 18 tl ( given the size of the portion) was expensive compared to most other restaurants, seafood pasta at just 1tl more was exceptional value and packed full of prawns.

beer slightly more but vodka at 7.5 cheaper than many places in Calis

Live music in the background was lovely

The whole Kordon was buzzing, many places with live music, lovely ambience and looking very upmarket.
We all wondered why we've left it so long to spend an evening along there.

My thoughts exactly. The Kordon and some of the places in Fethiye are now wonderful places to spend an evening.

Far more attractive and interesting than Çalış beach front. With one or two exceptions the restaurants there need to buck up their ideas if they want to stay in business.

Six of us went the other night, all had different meals and all well pleased.  The portions didn't look large (presented in the middle of a large plate) but there was more than enough.

Vodka now 9.5 tl but for the location and the ambiance worth the little bit extra.

A bit of topic but has anyone tried the Veranda Cafe (next door to Shaka) it looks lovely.

We went to the Shaka twice when we were over in September - loved it.  We had seafood pasta which was really good and good value, and fillet steak with mushroom sauce on the side.  Loved the presentation and the food - our usual wine was over 20 lire more than in Calis so we went for the Villa Dolucca which was fine.  Hopefully the same people will be running the Shaka next year in which case we will definitely be back.  Also, very posh toilets.

We went to both in September....Veranda looks much nicer but we found the food uninspiring the drinks expensive and the service terrible my husband asked the waiter if we were invisible !

We thought Shaka was great the gin and tonics were enormous with plenty of gin! Food was delicious we had the beef ribs which fell off the bone service was good too.

4 of us went here for a meal on Thursday night and it was faultless. All of the food was very good and it was a lovely atmosphere with great music. We will definitely be returning again soon. 2 of the party had the fish set menu which was amazing value for menu and all of the fish was gorgeous.

We have been to Shaka a few times now, both just for a coffee and for meals. We liked it ourselves and have also taken our customers there when entertaining or socialising. We liked it, thought the staff were nice and friendly. My daughter wanted something that was not on the menu and they made it specially for her and as she is just little, they hardly charged for it, just a token sum even though she had actually been served a really good portion. Every place can have it's ups and downs but, if you haven't mentioned your problem on the night to the staff and given them a chance to rectify your issue, how can you then criticise? When serving the public, you can't get it right every time but you should be judged on how you deal with a compaint, assuming one was made.

It's on the new part of the prom,  nearer to where they've finished  the expansion for the moment than Fethyie centrum
