Hi June, its easy, just Chat, ti, :)
-
Thanks Des, I know you did tell me but I couldn't remember ....will call him later x
-
I think this is how you pronounce it Chat eye. As in Scottish yes (aye), Turkish month ay, or Turkish moon ay. :-\
-
Cagatay himself told me Char tay
He must get used to being called allsorts though.
Thouroughly nice bloke so I dont thing you will offend him however you pronounce his name.

Dont know where the R came from Bewva, Cagatay, the C in turkish is allways spoken as CH as in Chalis spelt Calis, there is no sound for the g but lengthens the previous vowel, hence chat- ti. cagatay is a member of CBF, so i am sure he will assist anyone if they wish to contact him for correct pronounciation.

Because the G is actually a Ğ and that has a slight sound, the best I've heard it described is as the English 'gh' in something like 'night'. Or better still I was told like a tiny growl from a small dog :D
Therefore I am with Bewva, although I blame Cha-grrrr-tie for this because his first name is Huseyin, one name we can all do ;)

Certainly save a lot of keypad work Keith. ;) :)

I don't think you are quite right there Des. Perhaps you don't have a Turkish keyboard. The 'c' in Turkish is pronounced like the 'j' in 'jam' . It is the 'c' with the little squiggle underneath 'Ç' which is pronounced like 'ch' in 'church'. Çalış has 3 non-English letters:- the c with the squiggle, the i without the dot and the s with the squiggle. The i without dot is pronounced more like 'uh' and the s with the wiggle is pronounced 'sh' as in 'shop'. So, ÇALIŞ should be pronounced 'Chalush' , not the way you hear most people pronounce it.
