Title: Monarch airlines delays
Post by: teetee on July 13, 2012, 17:16:08 PM
Am sitting at Gatwick waiting to board a 17.40 flight which will not at the moment take off until 20.15.

It the past we used to use the either KTHY when they were around and either Thomas Cook or Easyjet. This year we have booked mostly with Monarch and so far we have had a delay most times. My question is are Monarch flight quite often delayed because if so I will go back to the others who from memory reliable.

Members comment would be good.

Is that why out of the 3 out of the 4 flights out this evening are delayed or are they just poor though?

Some neighbours went back with Monarch a couple of weeks ago. Should have landed at Luton, but diverted to Stansted & bused to Luton, they didn't find that very amusing given that they had originally tried to book the Stansted flight, as it's nearer to their home, but were told it was full

Our friends were delayed 4+ hours in June. A necessary part had to be flown out from UK  ???

My daughter works for them so I'm just telling it as it is. Her Manchester flight to join me yesterday landed 15 minutes early.

Flown with Monarch, Birmingham to Dalaman the last three times.  No problems once on the plan but have been delayed 2hours each time coming back.

In May we had two flight changes prior to going and a two hour delay on our return flight but we have re-booked with them for September.

I flew to UK and back home to Turkey a couple of weeks ago with Monarch.

The flights were good although the senior stewardess was pre-occupied with messaging on her mobile whilst preparing for departure and got rather stroppy with the ground crew when they asked for a passenger headcount! The meal was a bit burnt but it did help pass the time!

The flight from the UK was scheduled to be delayed by 15 minutes but in fact the departure board at Birmingham went from "Delayed Wait in Lounge" to "Final Call Gate 55". We actually took off early! Only moan was that the toilet at the front of the aircraft had a rather well used "Out of Order" notice on the door, despite which the crew continued to use it through out the flight so I (and others) assumed, maybe wrongly, that they didn't want the hassle of passengers queuing that end. It did just create a blockage the other end of the aircraft with people trying to get past drink carts and duty free trolleys to join a massive queue the other end.

I was surprised that despite being advertised in the inflight magazine, there was no entertainment. Not that it bothered me personally as I would prefer to read anyway.

Other than those niggles though the flights were good. Admittedly I had paid for extra legroom but generally there seemed to be more room than on TCX flights.

We just used them, a 4.30 am flight to UK, 25 minute delay in the tarmac, but they never stopped going up and down selling anything and everything and making announcements.
At that time of the morning you don't care how many thousands of feet and you know it's cold and rainy in Gatwick anyway!

On the way back, bang on time, staff were stretched with their patience due to an influx of Towie types asking stupid questions, and leaving huge bags of make up, magazines and fake tan across the middle door exits.
Lovely stewardess next to us having a snigger with us about them and saying it was going to be a long flight.
They also had to confiscate some bottles of spirit from people ordering copius amounts of lemonade!

My dad was delayed with Monarch 4 hours last year, and so was my sister on another occasion.

I was delayed in Spain for about 7 ours once with Monarch, but apparently a bird had flown into an engine...

I really think it is the luck of the draw as in how things are going on the day you fly. we flew with them in May outwards on time but 3 hour delay on return and that  was due to staffing probs so could be once like Kenkay said they have recruited things will get better.
I also flew with Thomas Cook last month and had a 2 hour delay outwards but on time the return flight, thank goodness it was as it was "earthquake" evening and I have never in all my life been so glad to get in the air I nearly clapped when we took off  :)  :)

Flying with them 6 weeks tomorrow so I shall be interested to see how we get on. Have not used them for a number of years.

We kind of always expect delays at Dalaman anyway.

We have flown with Monarch to Dalaman from Gatwick a couple of times before and never had a delay there or on the return flight, we're meant to be in the air this time in 2 weeks so hopefully all will be ok, it's been a long enough wait to get back to Calis as it is without having to sit around Gatwick for hours!! :(

Have flown with Monarch 5 times and booked with them again for our Calis visit next month, we have had small delays (30 mins) but nothing major, staff were lovely and we were kept up to date about the delays both at Manchester and Dalaman.

Well in the end although we were scheduled to take of at 20.15 instead of 17.40 we did eventually take off at 21.10.

Whilst sitting here now reading other posts I remember family members leaving us early in June to fly Monarch and having a 3 + hour delay which compared to Gatwick is really bad!!

So far a 100% delay record hope with the current temperatures this falls for the return!!

For all those traveling gaping journey. Back to the Efes!

4 weeks yesterday we fly out to Dalaman from Gatwick with Monarch for the first time, thats the first time with Monarch not going to Calis, leaving 15:25 so will let you know how we got on once there.
I personally don't mind a delay as long as they don't cancel, as long as i get there sometime i will be happy its been a long time coming, and the bar will be open anyway lol. happy days.

We will be using them for the 3rd & 4th time this year not a problem with flights just staff and check-in at Luton, fingers crossed our luck holds if not, never mind. We flew 4times last year with FTC delayed twice at Dalaman end. Monarch 10kg hand luggage TC 5kg (we don't need hold) this year Monarch win on  hand luggage allowance and price. Maybe next year will be different.

Main reason we are using them is because they let you use Tesco vouchers. Made the flights much cheaper this year  :)
