I am planning to move from Fethiye to live in Calis full time. This is probably a stupid question, however over the years I've read so many posts about burglaries in Calis - is there a particular area that is targetted or just opportunists looking for easy pickings, e.g. open windows, etc.? Planning on spending another day wandering the streets (!) of Calis looking for an apartment. Thanks for any advise. Cheers.

I would say that any problems here in Calis are fairly random, however when we bought our house some years back we paid particular notice to whether our location would be occupied 52 weeks per year, with the boom in building over recent years, there are a number of places that become like a ghost town over the winter months, obviously this makes it much easier for burglars at a time when money is tight.
Home alarms and security cameras are still very much the exception rather than the rule over here and although they do not guarantee you will never have a problem, I think they do make a difference.
Finally, don't get burglary problems out of proportion, CBF is a fantastic community where both good and bad experience are shared thousands of times an hour.

the best option is get a dog , most Turkish people still scared of dogs even it is a tiny one.
also avoid buying between gunlukbasi police station to uzumlu roundabout

Thanks Ytokgoz for the dog advice. The joke is that I have a dog, however, of the properties I've looked at and really liked, dogs are not allowed! I've thought to all sorts of sneaky ways around this but none of them will work! The Turkish property owners I've met have suggested I get rid of the dog. Sorry, dog for life not just Christmas, etc. I've had the pest for 10 years now and am not going to abandon her now. Having said all of that, she would be a useless guard dog - too soft!
