Title: Changing Lira to GBP - Turkey or UK ?
Post by: Rimms on September 29, 2012, 09:39:11 AM
With the continuing strong GBP exchange rate, still above 2.9 today. I was wondering whether its better to take TL back to England and change it there rather than here in Turkey ?

Looking on the net some of the buy back rates are around 3tl / pound. I think you would need to get a lot of TL then sit on it for the rate to be more favourable before changing back.

What is the buy back rate in Turkey?  As the exchange rate is usually higher in Turkey, you would think that the buy back rate would also be higher in Turkey making it more attractive to sell in the UK.

Probably my reasoning is way off track.

Ramsdens Gold (who give decent exchange rates here - relatively - when buying foreign currency) quote 3.153 TL/£ (buyback rate) so £100 would cost you 315.30 lira. I am sure Garanti could do it for less liras  :)
