Title: Turkish Bank accounts
Post by: ruggerbugger on October 11, 2012, 13:27:37 PM
I am thinking of opening a bank account when i come back next year as i am looking to purchase a property in the Calis area for when i retire in 16 months time.  I have heard the interest rates are a lot higher here than in uk for investments. Can anybody give me information on what documents are needed to open a bank account in turkey, i.e. proofs of identity etc. How long the whole process takes from getting an insurance number to time at the bank.
What banks are best in the Fethyie area.
What exactly are the interset rates for normal and investment accounts.
Any advice welcome.

Tax number & passport.

How long the whole process takes from getting an insurance number to time at the bank.
As long as it takes you to queue in the bank, Tax number issued while you wait at the main Post Office.

What banks are best in the Fethyie area.
Subjective, personal choice.

What exactly are the interset rates for normal and investment accounts.
Ask on the day you are ready to sign up, changes daily & currently going down, sadly, but currently "up to" 9% on a monthly account.

take a copy of your passport with you and your address, you then have a tax number,go to bank they will set your account up.
might have to wait a couple of days  for tax number to go throu, i did, i find Teb bank, and ing  bank are good rates from 91/2 to 8.
before 15per cent tax on interest.

Interest rates all banks in Turkey on this link. http://www.bodrumbulletin.com/community/finance/889-turkish-interest-rate-report obviously these rates can change or may have already since the report was done.
