Title: Thomas Cook Dalaman to Glasgow Flight Fills With Smoke
Post by: Scunner on October 11, 2012, 22:51:53 PM
And not an Embassy Regal in sight

"Around 60 passengers had to leave a plane by emergency chutes after the cabin began to fill with smoke. The Thomas Cook flight from Dalaman in Turkey had landed at Glasgow Airport as normal and was on the stand when the incident happened. Two-thirds of the passengers had disembarked as usual via the air bridge to the terminal building when smoke began to fill the cabin.

The crew released three chutes to allow the remaining passengers to leave the aircraft as quickly as possible as a precaution while the cause of the smoke was investigated. Around 60 people left the plane using the chutes at the back of the aircraft while the rest used the air bridge."

Lucky white heather !!!!!  We were on this flight, and it was really frightening. We had just got into the line to get off when the smoke started to course through the cabin, and the steward on they tannoy telling everyone to get off the plane as quick as possible.  Luckily we had our hand luggage and were near the door so got off quickly.  Guess what, we were also on the flight on 29 August going to Dalaman when it was redirected to Gatwick due to navigation system failure.  Is someone trying to tell us something!!!!!

Glad I don't fly with you lizdev!  :o

Seriously though, saw this on the news this morning and wondered if someone on here was on it. That sounds pretty scary, glad everyone got off ok.

I would have been really scared too but I do admit I would love to go down one of those chutes  ;)do you really have to remove your shoes before going down the chute if you are wearing high heels, I am sure that is mentioned in the safety demo, surely you would just want to get off the plane, say you were wearing a pair of shoes that had loads of buckles you would be there for ever holding everyone else up. That would not go down to well if everyone was panicking! :(

I dont think you'd hold me up Karenina, I'd shove you down shoes or not   ;)

I think the general idea is that heels could pierce the chute

Oh I see I did not realise that the heels could pierce the shute  :)I must admit thirty years ago I would most probably have worn high heels whilst travelling, those days are long gone glamming up for flying :(now it is a case of what can I kick off as soon as I am seated!!

I have always been a bit of a din in life probably could take the title for being a dozy/dinni blonde  ;)about thirty years ago my friend and I went on a girls holiday to Benidorm first ever holiday abroad! we were so excited about our holiday we bought all our holiday clothes and could not wait for take off, the tickets arrived oh such exciement booked a taxi to Gatwick and decided the night before to sit up all night and drink (no way could I do that now) got all dolled up for the airport high heels the lot! got to Gatwick to check in for our flight, the girl on check in said you do realise you are not flying until 12 hours time? we were like no our flight is at 10.00am she replied no your flight is 10..00pm tonight, we had not calculated the twenty four clock (well I hadn't) god we were so hung over tried to find a b&b near Gatwick from a public phone box to get some sleep, there was no mobile phones in those days no luck so we got on a train went home had a kip and went back later via train again for our 10.00pm flight god I was so stupid when I was young and to be honest  I still am to some degree :but oh such fun being young and stupid  :) 8)

As I am only 5 3"  I like to wear heels, but when travelling I would wear about a 2" heel sandal.  Easy to kick off on the plane.  However, even when my husband has filled in shoes. I always get asked to take off my strappy sandals and put them through the x-ray, this makes me angry.

;D great story karennina!  Oh the things we could do when we were much younger - and wouldn't think of doing now, or be able to!!  And for me one of them includes going to work, walking and standing all day, in 4" heels.  I used to love wearing high heels, but I'm afraid it's only occasionally now and definitely not so high  :o.  Smart but comfy is the motto these days.
