I am listening on BBC5 to a live broadcast of a "Meet the People" type programme with a large and articulate audience in Sheffield. In the spotlight is Nick Clegg who is wriggling and kicking like a man strung up on a Medieval gallows. I almost feel embarrassed to be enjoying so much. Almost, but not quite.

Sigh, lets go back to the good old medieval days when politicians could be roasted on a spit!

Whatever happened to the days when they really cared and had reasonable expenses and paid a reasonable
salary, where are the Cyril Smiths, (definiyely a heavyweight   :)), Jack Ashleys and Rab Butlers?
