Every now and again a politician earns some of their salary by treating us to an entertaining speech. Remember Geoffrey Howe's wonderful turning of the knife in the chest of the condescending and completely unprepared Thatcher? Here's the Australian Prime Minister savaging a startled Leader of the Opposition. Great fun.

Indeed, but have to own up to moving onto the outtakes when she eventually got to point 3......impressed by the content and her speaking ability though.

No place for sexism in politics - quite right - but after 12 minutes I was losing the will to live and her bum did look a little bit too big in those trousers on the shots from the rear and the 2 ladies behind her looked as though they were in drag so I had nothing to keep my interest - sorry :)

Democracy has fallen into the hands of people with attention deficiency disorder.

Not true at all. My wife paid her full attention to the speech but I told her not to worry her pretty little head about it.........

Blimey don't women go on

And on and on and on - she made her point in the first 30 seconds - no wonder she can't keep a good man - all that nagging and nagging and nagging !

If you cut out the words "the right honourable gentleman" the speech would have lasted about 2 minutes.

If it was significantly shorter it wouldn't have so good. It is the relentless piling of scorn and contempt, wave upon wave, that produces the result i.e. that the miserable Leader of the Opposition sits like a little lost boy who doesn't know what has hit him. He certainly never expected that from a PM who has no track record of such stinging attacks. He no doubt thought he was in a for little bit of peacocking for the entertainment of his backbenchers. It took him quite a while to twig that this wasn't how things were going to play out. Smashing theatre.

I LOVED it! The best put-down ever and well deserved. I agree the whole version must be viewed for full impact. Notice she has no script, very articulate and very cutting. Wish she was ours.

I reckon he "knocked her back" in the members bar the previous evening :)

Had you thought of taking professional therapeutic advice for your condition?

Ok - serious comment - can't stand the woman - the most unpopular pm in the recent history amongst Australians - desperately trying to "up her ratings" by using notes clearly written for her by her team of scriptwriters - that she had to keep referring to to make an "impassioned speech" :)
