Another question.  Ringo Starr left a very famous group in Liverpool to join the Beatles.  However, who was the leader of this group and what was his (none musical) connection with Alvin Stardust.... No Googling.

was it Billy Fury. seem to remeber something in the 'Birth of the Beatles' film. No idea of a connection with Alvin Stardust though

No that's wrong. Don't believe Billy Fury was every in a group.  He was a solo singer. He did live with Lee Middleton for many years, she went on to marry Kenny Everett (whose real name was Maurice Cole).

He was a drummer with a group called the hurricanes Jacqui, the singer was Rory Storm and i beleive he was Alvin Stardusts brother in law, i remember a singles record called cindys birthday by shane fenton who changed his name to alvin, (i think).

Desmartinson,  that's the one --- Rory Storm & the Hurricanes.  You can see my confusion in memory between Storm & Fury

Top marks Des,  Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.  After he gave up the group he worked as a D.J. in Liverpool. Rory (real name Alan Cauldwell) had a terrible stammer, but did not stammer when he sang or when he was speaking on the microphone.  His sister Iris, who had a small part in a James Bond film was married to Bernard Jewry, AKA Shane Fenton AKA Alvin Stardust.
